Remington Park track report

Remington Park will begin offering 10-cent superfecta wagering on its live races Friday in response to requests from patrons. The track is racing Quarter Horses, and the meet will continue through June 5.

The reduced-price wager will be available on straight bets, as well as wheel and box combinations. Remington will also accept 10-cent superfecta wagering on incoming simulcasts from tracks that offer the wager, including Lone Star Park near Dallas, a sister track that, like Remington, is owned by Magna Entertainment.

Turf Paradise track report

Patrick Valenzuela made a rare visit to Turf Paradise a week and a half ago to take three mounts, and although he finished off the board in all three rides, he still managed to make quite an impression, particularly on young apprentice Kristina Kenney.

While Valenzuela has won a number of big races, including a Kentucky Derby, Kenney was making her career debut in the final race of the day on May 3 and admits to being a nervous wreck. Valenzuela, 43, the leading rider at the recently concluded Santa Anita meet, apparently sensed her anxiety and tried to help.

Overflow field for derby

Louis Hodges Jr.
Storm Surge is the leading earner among the Lone Star Derby probables.

Most North American racetracks cap field size at 12. Lone Star Park, however, is willing to take 14 horses at a time. And even that might not be enough to fit in the prospective field for Saturday's Walmac Lone Star Derby.

Turf runners tune up for stakes

ALBANY, Calif. - Thursday's feature race at Golden Gate Fields is really a sneak preview.

The 1 1/16-mile allowance race on the turf was written by racing secretary Sean Greely to provide a prep for runners being considered for the $100,000 Rolling Green on June 4.

Adreamisborn and Aly Bubba, second and third in the Grade 2 San Francisco Breeders' Cup Mile at Bay Meadows in their last start, signed up. So did stakes winner Handyman Bill, Irish import Addario, and Adreamisborn's stablemate Symphony Sid.

'Dan' looking in peak form for feature

INGLEWOOD, Calif. - Danthebluegrassman might not win the feature race Thursday at Hollywood Park, but no starter is more qualified. Six older horses race seven furlongs in the three-other-than/optional $100,000 claimer, and Danthebluegrassman enters with solid credentials.

Don't leave Swing the Cat off ticket

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - On the chance that the pick six carried over again to the Thursday program at Churchill Downs, things stood to get really interesting.

A carryover of $471,588 awaited horseplayers Wednesday at Churchill after failing to be won on Kentucky Derby Day. At least two races with solid favorites were part of the pick six Wednesday, when the total pool was expected to soar well past the $1 million mark. If those favorites, and perhaps a couple of other logical horses, were to prevail, then the Thursday card figures to be, well, just another Thursday card.

With Patience returns off short rest

ELMONT, N.Y. - The weather forecast for Thursday calls for showers ending early, followed by clearing. One would hope that predicting this sort of thing is easier than figuring out the results of the Kentucky Derby, because four of the races in Belmont Park's pick-six sequence are scheduled for the turf, including the featured $60,000 Voodoo Dancer Stakes.

Provobay takes on Blush

BOSSIER CITY, La. - Thursday's headliner appears to be a shootout between Provobay and Blush, both of whom graduated over the turf and will attempt to clear their first condition on the allowance ladder. A field of 10 will go in the $25,500 race, which is at about one mile on the turf, with the temporary rail set at 10 feet.

, trained by Gerald Romero, narrowly failed in her first start of the year after clearing the field early in an allowance over the Lone Star turf course last month. The result was a career-best 81 Beyer Speed Figure that is tops in Thursday's field.

Quick in Deed has the edge in allowance

ETOBICOKE, Ontario - Stakes-placed Quick in Deed will try to make short work of his seven opponents in Thursday's sixth race at Woodbine. The six-furlong event is the tougher split of a $62,800 allowance for Ontario-sired nonwinners of two.

Quick in Deed has hit the board in each of his four outings, all for trainer Abraham Katryan. He defeated a quality field in his debut Sept. 24 and then finished third in the restricted Bull Page Stakes behind Wholelottabourbon, who was Canada's champion 2-year-old in 2004.
