ELMONT, N.Y. - The multiple stakes winner Medallist suffered a cracked sesamoid bone in his left foreleg and will miss Monday's $750,000 Metropolitan Handicap, according to trainer Allen Jerkens. His racing future could also be in jeopardy.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Ebony Breeze has finished in the money in 20 of 25 starts, a record that would seem to speak more to consistency than brilliance.

On occasion, however, such as in her last start, Ebony Breeze can really shine. As part of a May 5 allowance field that included Lady Tak, a multiple Grade 1 winner, Ebony Breeze demonstrated that she can be more than just steady - she also can stand out. Ebony Breeze won the race by 1 3/4 lengths.

INGLEWOOD, Calif. - Osidy left owner B. Wayne Hughes and trainer Richard Mandella looking forward to the lucrative turf stakes available for 3-year-olds when he ran second in the Harry Henson Stakes on April 22.

A late rally in the Henson, a turf sprint, hinted that Osidy could develop into a contender for important races such as the $400,000 Del Mar Derby on Sept. 5. His first objective is Saturday's $100,000 Will Rogers Stakes over a mile on turf at Hollywood Park.

"I'm expecting big stuff," Mandella said.

INGLEWOOD, Calif. - Jockey Patrick Valenzuela is hoping to return to riding in mid-June from injuries suffered in a spill at Hollywood Park on May 8. One of his first rides back could be on Mighty Beau at the prestigious Royal Ascot meeting in England.

Valenzuela suffered a knee injury and migraine headaches after falling from Mango Escapade shortly after the start of a sprint. He underwent knee surgery in mid-May to repair cartilage damage to his knee.

OCEANPORT, N.J. - The Grade 3, $100,000 Red Bank Handicap opens the turf season Saturday at Monmouth Park, weather permitting.

The Jersey Shore has been inundated with rain this past week, leaving the course saturated. "It is our intention to keep the Red Bank on the grass, barring substantially more rain," racing secretary Mike Dempsey said.

The complexion of the race could change dramatically with a surface change.

VANCOUVER, British Columbia - Southern California invader Processor looks like the one to beat in a $50,000 optional sprint for 3-year-olds Saturday at Hastings.

Processor has won two races. He won his maiden going 5 1/2 furlongs for $50,000 at Santa Anita last September, and in his next start, at Hollywood Park, beat $62,500 claimers at six furlongs. He hasn't raced since finishing sixth in a $50,000 sprint at Santa Anita Jan. 28.

CALGARY, Alberta - Blackjack Willy, a closing second to Golden Hunt in the six-furlong President's here May 7, stretches out to a mile in Saturday's $50,000 Hoofprint on My Heart Handicap at Stampede Park.

Blackjack Willy fell a length short of catching Golden Hunt in the President's but was going the best in deep stretch despite failing to switch leads. Trained by Rick Hedge, Blackjack Willy should appreciate the additional two furlongs in this major prep to the June 18 Alberta Derby.

AUBURN, Wash. - Tomorrow's Turn heads a field of nine 3-year-olds, each eligible to be claimed for $20,000, in Saturday's six-furlong feature at Emerald Downs.

ETOBICOKE, Ontario - The undefeated Bosskiri will be a short price Saturday at Woodbine in the $125,000 Lady Angela Stakes, and justifiably so.

Bosskiri was widely considered the best 2-year-old filly in Canada last year. She crushed Ontario-sired maiden special weight foes when she made her debut in July and subsequently won the Nandi Stakes in a romp, earning a Beyer Speed Figure of 85. Her juvenile campaign was cut short by a minor injury, which left her one race shy of Sovereign Award eligibility.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - At first glance, Native Bull and Quick Blend appeared to race to rather ordinary back-to-back victories Thursday at Churchill Downs.

If they only knew.

Not only did the triumphs give Joe Woodard the Churchill record for most consecutive wins for a trainer, nine, but the 28 claims submitted for Native Bull before the sixth race also broke what is believed to be the track record.

It was a historic day indeed for a 37-year-old Louisville native whose previous claim to fame was as a perennial leading trainer at River Downs.
