Felicianos win with Pyrite Bonds

NORTH RANDALL, Ohio - Trainer Miguel A. Feliciano, who has seven stakes wins from 22 starts this year, and jockey Ricardo Feliciano, Miguel's nephew and leading rider in Ohio stakes races, teamed to win the $40,000 Ohio Debutante Handicap with Pyrite Bonds at Thistledown on Saturday.

A 3-year-old by Formal Dinner, Pyrite Bonds broke alertly to make the lead a few strides out of the gate, set the pace with quick fractions, and prevailed by a length over heavily favored Bold Passage. It was another 2 3/4 lengths back to Noon Win, who finished third.

Hide and Chic faces softer in Oaks

Hide and Chic, the beaten favorite in the Grade 1 Test at Saratoga a month ago, faces softer competition for her initial race around two turns in Monday's $100,000 Pennsylvania Oaks.

The Oaks, which will be contested at a mile and 70 yards, goes as race 9, immediately preceding Philadelphia Park's premier event, the Grade 2, $750,000 Pennsylvania Derby.

Rue des Reves goes after turf queen's tiara

At an age when most female racehorses have long been retired to the breeding shed, Rue des Reves is running better than ever.

The 6-year-old Rue des Reves has won 7 of 8 starts this season, including a $100,000 turf stakes at Canterbury Park, and earned $141,000.

Despite her flashy credentials, Rue des Reves is rated no better than fourth choice at 8-1 on the track's morning line for the $75,000 Summer Finale, the co-feature on Mountaineer Racetrack's holiday card.

Hard to go against One Way Flight

After crushing seven outclassed opponents in a stakes two weeks ago, One Way Flight figures to dominate again when he returns to Finger Lakes for Monday's $248,400 New York Breeders' Futurity.

The six-furlong futurity, first run in 1963, is one of two stakes for New York-breds on the Labor Day holiday program. One race earlier, 3-year-old fillies will go 1 1/16 miles in the $75,000 New York Oaks.

Timonium: 'Chessie' seeks repeat

Captain Chessie, who led from start to finish in last year's Taking Risks Stakes but hasn't won in four widely spaced races since then, tries to recapture his best form when he returns to Timonium for the Taking Risks Stakes, the closing-day feature.

Unlike last year, when the race was a 1 1/16-mile route, Monday's $50,000 Taking Risks will be contested at 6 1/2 furlongs.

Say bye to turf course

OCEANPORT, N.J. - Farewell, old sod.

The $60,000 Bob Harding Monday will be the final stakes race run over the existing Monmouth Park turf course.

Replacement of the course, one of the major renovation projects in advance of the 2007 Breeders' Cup, begins Tuesday.

Before the work crews attack, Monmouth will squeeze out a few final grass races, including the Harding at a mile.

Prairie Meadows: Entry big favorite

The entry of The K B Kid and Timetobook looms a short-priced favorite against seven 2-year-old rivals in the $40,000 Prairie Meadows Freshman at six furlongs.

Both halves of the Todd Hoffrogge-trained entry are very capable of winning the Freshman. The K B Kid has the best credentials in the field, having won all four of his starts, including three straight stakes wins. In his most recent start, The K B Kid scored a 3 3/4-length victory in the $55,000 Northern Lights Futurity against Minnesota-breds at Canterbury on Aug. 21.
