I'm the Tiger dashing in De Francis

Jim McCue/Maryland Jockey Club
Front-running I'm the Tiger, with Jerry Bailey riding, cruises to victory by 3 1/4 lengths in Saturday's Grade 1 De Francis Dash.

LAUREL, Md. - I'm the Tiger wasn't nominated to the Breeders' Cup, so even though trainer Bobby Frankel thinks highly of the 5-year-old gelding, he needed to find someplace other than the BC Sprint to run him this fall.

The $300,000 turned out to be a pretty nice consolation prize for both Frankel and I'm the Tiger.

Sundrop goes out in style

Churchill Downs
Sundrop wins the $175,050 Cardinal Handicap at Churchill Downs on Saturday.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Put a big red line through that last race for Sundrop - and while you're at it, take her off your Stable Mail.

After finishing last of 14 in the Breeders' Cup Filly and Mare Turf three weeks earlier, Sundrop, owned by the Godolphin Racing powerhouse, completely reversed that confounding effort on Saturday to win the $175,050 at Churchill Downs.

Godolphin representatives said afterward that the Cardinal was the last career start for Sundrop, who was to be vanned Sunday to Jonabell Farm in Lexington.

Meet opener a more subdued kind of day

Desert Wheat wins the $50,000 Gentilly Stakes on Fair Grounds' opening day at Louisiana Downs.

BOSSIER CITY, La. - Absent the usual Thanksgiving Day party atmosphere, absent even its own racetrack, Fair Grounds began its 2005-2006 racing season on Saturday at Louisiana Downs in Bossier City. Admission here is free, so there is no way of counting how many fans came to the races, but there was plenty of empty space on a pleasant fall day that turned sunny midway through the afternoon.

Cryptograph, cutting back to 1 1/16 miles for the Woodbine Slots Cup, was kept closer to the pace than usual by rider Todd Kabel.
