Prairie: G G's Dolly one to catch

G G's Dolly heads a field of nine fillies and mares entered in the $50,000 Prairie Rose Stakes at Prairie Meadows.

The front-running G G's Dolly enters the Prairie Rose in top form, having won both of her starts this year. Both of those races came at Oaklawn Park in allowance company and were at the same six-furlong distance as the Prairie Rose.

New, improved Desert Wheat can get job done

GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas - Desert Wheat is a stronger, more versatile colt than he was last year, and that only adds to his appeal on Saturday when he heads a field of eight in the $75,000 Grand Prairie Turf Challenge at Lone Star Park.

The one-mile turf race for 3-year-olds is one of two stakes supporting the Grade 3, $300,000 Texas Mile. The other is the $50,000 JEH Stallion Station for fillies and mares bred in Texas.

Short rest fine for Judiths Wild Rush

ETOBICOKE, Ontario - Top horses who excel while competing on short rest are a rarity, but Judiths Wild Rush has thrived on such action, and will be going with a two-week gap between engagements Saturday at Woodbine in the Grade 3, $150,000 Vigil Stakes.

Judiths Wild Rush defeated a first-rate group, which included champions A Bit O'Gold and Mobil, in the 2005 Vigil, just two weeks after his narrow loss in the Jacques Cartier Stakes. He received a triple-digit Beyer Speed Figure in both races.

Tracy runs three good sprinters

CALGARY, Alberta - Greg Tracy, leading trainer at this meet last year, will saddle three of the 10 entrants in Saturday's $50,000 Stampede Park Sprint Championship.

Tracy's horses drew the inside three post positions, with Smudgeledo, a handy winner here in 1:10 April 16 over the six-furlong distance of the Sprint, drawing the rail. Tracy's other horses, the multiple stakes winner and 2003 Alberta champion 3-year-old Taiaslew and 4-year-old Dakota Duke, are coupled and break from posts 2 and 3.

Angara gets campaign started in Beaugay

OZONE PARK, N.Y. - In 2004, the Sangster family purchased Sand Springs out of the Keeneland November breeding stock sale, turned her over to Bill Mott, and watched as the 5-year-old mare won the Grade 1 Diana.

The Sangsters are hoping to follow a similar pattern with Angara, whom they purchased privately after last November's Keeneland sale. Angara, who won the Grade 1 Beverly D. for Patrick Biancone last year, has been turned over to Mott and will make her 5-year-old debut in Saturday's Grade 3, $100,000 Beaugay Handicap at Aqueduct.

Willow O Wisp tries to get back on track

Willow O Wisp will try to snap a three-race losing streak Saturday in the Inglewood Handicap at Hollywood Park, where he won 2 of 3 starts last year.

INGLEWOOD, Calif. - Willow O Wisp rose to prominence at the 2005 Hollywood Park spring-summer meeting, posting the first stakes win of his career.

Saturday, the 4-year-old returns to Hollywood Park, where he will try to end a three-race losing streak in the $100,000 Inglewood Handicap, a 1 1/16-mile turf race.

Last year at Hollywood, Willow O Wisp finished second in the Grade 3 Will Rogers Stakes in May and returned a month later to win the Grade 3 Cinema Breeders' Cup Handicap. Willow O Wisp later won the La Jolla Handicap at Del Mar and the Del Mar Derby.
