Fort Marcy winner Foreverness starts in Sunday's Kingston Handicap.

ELMONT, N.Y. - Virtually every top New York-bred turf male from 2005 has returned for another season and they will meet in Sunday's $100,000 Kingston Handicap, scheduled for 1 1/8 miles on Belmont Park's inner turf course.

The Kingston marks the seasonal debuts of Certifiably Crazy - who was voted New York-bred turf champion - and Golden Commander, who won this race a year ago in course-record time. Dave and Retribution were also stakes winners in 2005, and have had the benefit of a prep race for this.

Foxysox, winning the Senorita, could start in the Honeymoon if her sore foot improves.

INGLEWOOD, Calif. - Track executives from Fairplex Park and Los Alamitos presented expansion proposals to a group of 25 industry officials on Friday at Hollywood Park, the track they each hope to replace on the Southern California Thoroughbred calendar.

With Hollywood Park facing an uncertain future - its owner has said it may develop the property if alternative forms of gambling are not legalized - Friday's meeting was mostly a chance for Fairplex and Los Alamitos to makes sales pitches to a room of influential people.

Beware of longshots trained by Matthews

FORT ERIE, Ontario - Owner-trainer Pat Matthews, who usually competes at Assiniboia Downs in Winnipeg, will spend the summer at Fort Erie.

Last Monday, Matthews sent out his first starter of the meet, C'Em Run. The filly, at odds of 16-1, finished third after leading most of the way.

"This filly only worked once," said Matthews. "If she had had another, she would have won the race."

Sunday, Matthews, 57, will start the other half of his outfit, Stage Door Penny, in an optional claimer for maidens.

Perfect spot for Lt. Regent

WINNIPEG, Manitoba - Lt. Regent appears to have found her favorite spot in Sunday's featured sixth race at Assiniboia Downs, a second-level allowance for fillies and mares with an optional claiming price of $16,000 at five furlongs.

Trained by Emile Corbel, Lt. Regent won two starts at this level last May before finishing fifth in the LaVerendrye Stakes. Lt. Regent was then sent to Northlands Park, where her best finish in three starts was a third. She then returned to make her final three starts of the season at Assiniboia, scoring one win over $10,000 claimers.

Durso's top assistant takes over the barn

OCEANPORT, N.J. - The orange-and-black sign outside Barn 20 at Monmouth Park still reads "R.J. Durso Public Trainer."

But inside a profound change has taken place.

In a move planned for several years, Bob Durso has turned the training over to his longtime lieutenant Luis Carvajal Jr.

Durso, and his ever-present cigar, have been fixtures at Monmouth for over 40 years. He has had a number of good horses along the way, with Frisk Me Now - winner of the Hutcheson Stakes, the Suburban Handicap, and the Iselin Handicap - the most prominent.

Field looks strong on either surface

NJC Cap winner Three Hour Nap (center) is entered main-track-only.

ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill. - Not one, but two feature-quality allowance races made it onto the Sunday program at Arlington when entries were taken Friday. Race 7, with a couple of the best Illinois-bred mares in training plus the good filly Whimsy, would be a worthy headliner, but it is eclipsed by the race that follows it. The eighth is a high-end allowance carded for 1 1/16 miles on turf, and even if the weatherman's prediction of something approaching another Great Flood comes true, the Sunday feature should hold together.

Fantastic Shirl filly to beat

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Anybody paying just a little bit of attention will notice a somewhat unusual theme as the Sunday program unfolds at Churchill Downs: The first four races are all restricted to females in an obvious tribute to the mothers who have been accompanied to the track in celebration of Mother's Day.
