Schickedanz in his old spot

FORT ERIE, Ontario - For eight consecutive years, Bruno Schickedanz, a Toronto businessman, finished atop the Fort Erie owner standings.

The streak ended last year when the Stronach Stable made a runaway of the race with 38 victories. Schickedanz, with 14, checked in a distant fourth.

Tuesday afternoon, Schickedanz was once again in familiar territory. His horse Winning Headline won the opener, and Gaelic Terms took the nominal feature by almost seven lengths. The two victories put Schickedanz two ahead of the Six Brothers Stable, which has five wins.

Frankel has favorites in two

ELMONT, N.Y. - A forecast for thunderstorms could wreak havoc on the grass races on Friday's card, but the two best races in terms of quality are on the main track. In each case, a Bobby Frankel-trained horse looks like the one to beat.

In race 3, a $100,000 optional claimer with classified allowance conditions at 1 1/16 miles, Frankel sends out Rathor, who won twice from seven starts in England and looks for his third straight win since being imported to the United States and switched to dirt.

Haka Girl can beat these boys

INGLEWOOD, Calif. - Since she beat maidens in her career debut at Del Mar in 2004, Haka Girl has failed to return to the winner's circle in six tries. In a career plagued by layoffs, she has found trouble in a few starts and was once beaten a head in a minor sprint stakes on turf.

Friday at Hollywood Park, may have found a spot to secure her second career win. A 4-year-old, she is the lone filly in a field of eight in a $51,000 allowance race at 1 1/16 miles. But with the exception of the lightly raced Mr. Wolverine, Haka Girl does not face a strong field.
