AUBURN, Wash. - World-record holder Sabertooth will make his return to action in a wide-open six-furlong allowance race at Emerald Downs on Saturday.

Richwoman could get richer

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Richwoman has been so willing and able to get things done early in her promising career that trainer Steve Asmussen had her flown all the way from Kentucky to Hollywood Park for the May 27 Cinderella Stakes.

"There weren't many other opportunities for us to run her," said Asmussen. "I felt like it was the only bridge between her breaking her maiden and the Debutante. It's a long way to go for a [$71,000] stakes, but it served our purposes."

Temporary track to get first test

Michael Burns
A five-inch deep cushion is being placed on top of Woodbine's Standardbred oval in time for Saturday's card.

ETOBICOKE, Ontario - It still looks like all systems go for Woodbine's converted Standardbred track, which begins its temporary duties as a Thoroughbred surface on Saturday.

The cushion of the former dirt track here is being moved to the seven-furlong Standardbred track, which will be used while Polytrack is installed in place of the former dirt surface. That process is scheduled to be completed by the end of August.

Discreet Cat to miss Travers

ELMONT, N.Y. - Discreet Cat has recently resumed training following an illness that forced him to miss Tuesday's Dwyer Stakes, but Godolphin Racing's undefeated 3-year-old won't be ready to run in the $1 million Travers Stakes next month at Saratoga, his connections said Thursday.

Rick Mettee, who oversees Godolphin's New York string, said Discreet Cat has been back to the track for less than a week, but that the cough that forced him to miss the Dwyer "messed up" his summer schedule.

Iosilver: Fire or misfire?

CHICAGO - Iosilver heads a field of eight entered in the Dr. Fager Stakes on Saturday at Arlington Park. Check that. Iolsilver would head the Dr. Fager if he hadn't performed so dismally May 16 in his first start of the year. But after prompting the pace at odds of 1-2 in a high-end allowance, Iosilver chucked it, finishing a distant last of four, a far cry from his excellent 2005 form.
