Rocco sweeps both stakes

Scary Bob made amends for his failure at even-money in this same race last year when he held off 7-5 favorite Tartlett by a neck in the $50,300 Delaware Certified Stakes at Delaware Park.

The win gave jockey Joe Rocco a sweep of the card's two stakes, which were restricted to horses that spent 90 days in Delaware prior to turning 2.

The 5-year-old Scary Bob ($5.60), based at Finger Lakes with trainer Chris Englehart, has now won three in a row and 7 of 24 lifetime. He covered six furlongs on a sloppy track in 1:10.88. He finished third in the 2005 Delaware Certified.

Great Hunter gets his prey

LEXINGTON, Ky. - An East vs. West showdown came to fruition when the field for the $500,000 hit the top of the stretch Saturday at Keeneland.

The 2-5 favorite, Circular Quay, had circled tiring rivals and was in full flight under Garrett Gomez, while the California invader Great Hunter had been conserved by Victor Espinoza and was primed to do his best running.

In the end, and on this day, Great Hunter proved clearly best, drawing off to win the Grade 1 race by 1 3/4 lengths, while Circular Quay was all-out to nip Street Sense for second by a nose.

Swen always tries hard

ALBANY, Calif. - Monday's Golden Gate Fields feature is exactly the type of race trainer Billy Morey had in mind when he claimed Swen for $25,000 at Pleasanton over the summer.

Swen drew the outside post in a field of five in a $50,000 optional claimer at one mile.

"I got tired of watching this horse be so darn consistent," Morey said of Swen, a 5-year-old gelding who won by eight the day he was claimed.

Financingavailable solid at short price

ETOBICOKE, Ontario - A victory by Financingavailable will not generate much of a return on investment in Monday's $125,000 Classy 'n Smart Stakes at Woodbine.

But seeking a more lucrative option isn't a recommended alternative as Financingavailable looks gilt-edged against six Ontario-sired filly and mare rivals in the 1 1/16-mile Classy 'n Smart.

Even trainer Lorne Richards, who tends to take a cautious approach when it comes to discussing his chances, is allowing himself a little latitude.
