DEL MAR, Calif. - Del Mar is often where the best 2-year-olds on the West Coast make their debuts, and by all accounts, there are a number of top prospects here this summer.
The Solano County Fair's general manager, Joe Barkett, was generally pleased with the fair's five-day run, shortened from the 10 in past years. The fair's meet in Vallejo ran from last Wednesday through Sunday.

INGLEWOOD, Calif. - Hollywood Park concluded its 63-day spring-summer meeting on Sunday with a record all-sources average handle of $11,335,575 and growth in ontrack average attendance and handle, according to figures released by the racetrack.
The all-sources average handle improved 8.9 percent over 2006, and beat the previous record of $11.1 million set in 2002.

Windward Islands gave Sam-Son Farm and trainer Mark Frostad their sixth victory in the last eight runnings of the Toronto Cup Stakes, a nine-furlong turf route for 3-year-olds.
Windward Islands rallied down the center of the course under Todd Kabel to prevail by 1 1/4 lengths over 32-1 shot Angel of the House. Skip Code wound up third, and favored Approval Rating finished sixth in a field that was reduced to nine runners with the scratch of Sprung.
