Opening-day Schuylerville lures nine

ELMONT, N.Y. - Fresh off his first Belmont trainer's title, Gary Contessa will try to keep the good times rolling at Saratoga when that meet opens on Wednesday. Contessa entered horses in six of the 10 races carded, including I Promise in the Grade 3, $100,000 Schuylerville Stakes for juvenile fillies.

A field of nine was entered for the Schuylerville, contested at six furlongs. Subtle Aly, an impressive debut winner at Churchill before being sold privately, and According to Plan, a sharp debut winner at Belmont for Barclay Tagg, will likely vie for favoritism.

Sandys Gold formidable

Martins Point and Satan's Code, the winners of the last two runnings of the $60,000 Punch Line Stakes at Colonial Downs, are back in the lineup for this year's edition of the five-furlong turf sprint for Virginia-bred or Virginia-sired horses. Neither one, however, is likely to be favored.

Since winning the 2005 Punch Line, the now 9-year-old Satan's Code has lost 11 straight races and was not the least bit competitive in his most recent start against $7,500 starter allowance foes at Penn National.
