Churchbridge one of few with speed

CALGARY, Alberta – Churchbridge stretches out to a mile for the first time this season and drops a notch in price to head a field of six older horses in a $22,000 claimer that runs as the featured eighth race on Sunday’s nine-race program at Stampede Park.

Churchbridge drew the rail with Desmond Bryan up and will be forwardly placed in this field, which lacks a true front-runner. Several of his Churchbridge’s one-mile efforts last year were good enough to win a race of this kind, and the 7-year-old gelding, trained by Danny Jones, will attract plenty of support.

Mini Do a pleasant surprise

INGLEWOOD, Calif. - There may be more ability in the 3-year-old filly Mini Do than trainer Julio Canani realized.

Since she began racing on turf earlier this spring, Mini Do is unbeaten in two starts - a front-running win in a maiden race in March and a late rally to win an optional claimer on April 30.

"She surprised me the other day when she came from behind," Canani said.

Enumclaw Girl to get tested

AUBURN, Wash. – Enumclaw Girl will have seven rivals on Saturday when she seeks to remain undefeated in the $60,000 Federal Way Handicap for 3-year-old fillies at 6 1/2 furlongs.

Enumclaw Girl, a daughter of Katowice from the barn of trainer Rosie Simkins, is coming off a convincing 2 1/2-length score in the six-furlong U. S. Bank Stakes on May 10. Enumclaw Girl, who won her only start last year against maiden special weight company, was dismissed at 18-1 in the U. S. Bank. Her price will certainly be dramatically lower on Saturday, though she still might not be favored.

A 5-year-old Irish-bred horse, Sudan is looking for his first win in the United States. The 1 3/8-mile turf stakes should provide an ideal distance for the horse, and a jumping-off point for turf marathons this summer in Southern California.
