Field, Dunkirk favored in Future Wager

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The flurry of weekend activity on the Kentucky Derby trail - which included the Louisiana Derby, San Felipe, Rebel, and Tampa Bay Derby - helped to leave a wide-open odds board when Pool 2 of the Kentucky Derby Future Wager closed Sunday after the usual four-day run.

Pool 2 was the first in the 11-year history of the parimutuel futures that Churchill Downs also offered exacta wagering, and fans responded in somewhat apathetic fashion, as only $104,017 was bet into the exacta pool.

Gozzip Girl rallies to take Herecomesthebride

HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla. - Though trainer Tom Albertrani wanted to give Gozzip Girl a brief freshening rather than run in Sunday's Grade 3 Herecomesthebride Stakes, the 3-year-old filly was sending signals for him not pass the race.

Good thing Albertrani picked up on the vibe.

Gozzip Girl proved just how much she wanted to run with a strong stretch rally along the rail under Elvis Trujillo to win the $150,000 Herecomesthebride by a half-length over Obsequious. It was three-quarters of a length back to Bluegrass Princess in third.

Macho Again rewards Stewart with Handicap win

NEW ORLEANS - This Fair Grounds meet has been a long, hard slog for trainer Dallas Stewart. His barn was subject to a quarantine at the beginning of the meet, and winners have been hard to come by in subsequent months. He was just 3 for 60 going into Saturday's card. But the meet got a little brighter on a gloomy, rainy day on Saturday, when Macho Again stormed down the center of the track to capture the Grade 2, $500,000 New Orleans Handicap.
