Bickersons rebounds from a dull Breeders' Cup race with a Moccasin win.

She's staying. On Tuesday, Breen announced that Bickersons would stick around just a little while longer in California to compete in the Grade 1, $300,000 Hollywood Starlet Stakes for 2-year-old fillies on Dec. 20, closing day of this track's fall meeting.

Tribal Belle ahead of the pack

Michael Burns
Tribal Belle, Jim McAleney up, comes from off the pace to win last Sunday's Bessarabian. It was her third sprint stakes victory of the Woodbine meeting and made her a front-runner to take home the new Sovereign Award for female sprinters.

ETOBICOKE, Ontario - The Jockey Club of Canada introduced a filly and mare sprinter division to its list of Sovereign Award categories this year. That addition seems to have come at a propitious time for Tribal Belle, who recorded her third sprint stakes win of the meeting in the $156,500 Bessarabian at seven furlongs here last Sunday.

"I think she'd be a deserving winner," said Terry Jordan, who trains Tribal Belle for the Canvasback Farm of Mike Wiltshire. "Probably six to 6 1/2 furlongs is her best distance. She struggles at seven furlongs, but how can you knock her?"

Quality Road behaving himself

Quality Road, who went through an extensive schooling session at Aqueduct without incident last Saturday, took another step on Monday toward a possible start in Saturday's Grade 1 Hill 'n' Dale Cigar Mile by working a half-mile in 50.88 seconds over the training track at Belmont Park.

Exercise rider Hector Ramos was aboard for the work, which was termed breezing.

"I thought he worked well and he came out of it well," said Todd Pletcher, who trains Quality Road for Edward Evans. "I'll have a discussion with Mr. Evans and we'll make a decision [Tuesday]."
