Silver Timber can't catch General Perfect

General Perfect, under Pablo Fragoso, pays $25 to win after upsetting the John McSorley Stakes.

General Perfect, taking advantage of a lack of early speed in the field, controlled the pace and knocked off heavy favorite Silver Timber to win the $100,000 on Sunday at Monmouth Park.

"My horse likes to run on the lead," said winning jockey Pablo Fragoso. "I just wanted to break well and give him the opportunity to race on the lead. I had plenty of horse the whole way and I knew nobody was going to be able to run us down."

Lone Star jockey avoids serious injury in spill

GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas - Jockey Junior Chacaltana, who was taken to Dallas Methodist Hospital with abdomen and chest pain following a two-horse spill in Sunday s seventh race at Lone Star Park, was released later the same night after undergoing tests, said track spokesperson Dan Leary.

John Rochabrun, who was also involved in the incident Sunday, returned to ride the next race.

Restless Youth appreciates shorter assignment

PLEASANTON, Calif. - Restless Youth, cutting back in distance after recent turf routes, broke sharply and was never headed as he won the $62,300 Sam J. Whiting Memorial Handicap on closing day at the Alameda County Fair on Sunday.

Jiggly, the 6-5 favorite in a field of four, acted up a bit when he first went into the gate and hopped at the start as Restless Youth went immediately to the front and claimed an open lead.

Cherokee's Goal handles first route assignment

Cherokee's Goal, stretching out for the first time, stalked the pace and then came on for a 2 1/4-length score in the $30,000 Harry Jeffrey Stakes at Assiniboia Downs on Saturday evening.

Ridden by Juan Crawford, Cherokee's Goal was coming off a second-place finish in the six-furlong Golden Boy and stamped himself as the top local prospect for the Aug. 2 Manitoba Derby with his victory in the 1 1/16-mile Harry Jeffrey.

Scat Dancer displays dramatic form reversal

Scat Dancer picked up the pieces from a three-way pace battle to capture the Iowa Stallion Stakes at Prairie Meadows on Saturday.

The race was restricted to the progeny of stallions whose shares were donated to the Iowa Thoroughbred Owners and Breeders' Association stallion service auction, and with Iowa-bred supplement and fees, distributed a total of $93,919.

Scat Dancer ($14.20), beaten by 49 1/4 lengths in his most recent start on June 4, overcame some health issues since that poor performance.

Lookin At Lucky's work pleases Baffert

Lookin At Lucky worked six furlongs in 1:12.60 at Santa Anita on Saturday, moving the Preakness Stakes winner closer to a potential start in the $1 million Haskell Invitational at Monmouth Park on Aug. 1.

Lookin At Lucky worked in company with stablemate El Martillo, starting several lengths behind and finishing well, according to trainer Bob Baffert. El Martillo was timed in 1:13.20.
