Heza Wild Guy three-peats in To Much Coffee

Heza Wild Guy cruised to a four-length win to capture his third consecutive To Much Coffee at Hoosier Park on Sunday.

The 9-year-old gelding was kept in mid-pack early by jockey Tommy Pompell and then roused in the stretch.

"He is always such a nice horse to ride." Said Pompell, aboard for all three To Much Coffee victories. "I had him fourth sitting behind the pace through the stretch and tried to keep him along the inside. But I didn't want to get him trapped. Then I brought him out in the turn and it was all him from there on."

Sharp Secretary gets back on Polytrack in Ruling Angel

ETOBICOKE, Ontario – Duchess Stakes winner Sharp Secretary will go back to the Polytrack on Wednesday night at Woodbine in the $100,000 Ruling Angel Stakes, a 6 1/2-furlong sprint for 3-year-old fillies.

Sharp Secretary commenced her campaign by running second to champion Biofuel in the April 10 Star Shoot Stakes. She blossomed in the summer, when she won an optional claimer with a 92 Beyer Speed Figure and the Duchess with an 87 Beyer. She defeated six shippers in the seven-furlong Duchess.

Miss Keller still aimed at Breeders' Cup

ETOBICOKE, Ontario – Miss Keller, one of just two Woodbine-based entrants in the E.P. Taylor, tried her best to hold the fort but wound up a length back as the runner-up to France’s Reggane in Sunday’s Grade 1 filly and mare turf feature.

Miss Keller, trained by Roger Attfield, is owned by Three Chimneys Racing LLC and is headed for the 1 3/8-mile Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Turf at Churchill Downs.

Golden Gate targets the juvenile set

With an emphasis on 2-year-olds, the best of which are being pointed to track owner MI Developments’s bonus programs for 3-year-olds next year, one might expect Golden Gate Fields to come up with a clever title for the 45-day meet that opens Wednesday.

The Meet of Great Expectations? The Meet of Future Stars?

“We’re just calling it the 2010 fall meeting,” said Golden Gate Fields general manager Robert Hartman.

Even without a fancy moniker, Hartman says, “It should be a great meet.”

Fastation extends stakes streak at Zia

Fastation continued her stakes tear on Sunday, when she outgamed Angel At Home for a half-length win in the $55,000 Permian Basin for 2-year-old fillies at Zia Park. It was the fourth straight stakes win for Fastation.

She began her streak in July in the 5 1/2-furlong division of the $100,000 Texas Stallion Stakes at Lone Star Park. Fastation then won the $85,000 Juvenile Fillies at Mountaineer Park on Aug. 7, and the six-furlong division of the $100,000 Texas Stallion Stakes at Retama Park on Sept. 25.

Quindici Man comes through in Bull Dog

Favored Quindici Man unleashed a strong late kick to wear down Slew the Man and capture the $53,950 Bull Dog Stakes Sunday at the Big Fresno Fair.
Quindici Man, stakes-placed in his past two starts and second in the Grade 3 Inglewood earlier this year, was last on the second turn before responding to Ricky Frazier’s urging in scoring his first victory of 2010 in the 1 1/8-mile race. He paid $3.80.

Go Forth North noses out All Due Respect in Ramser

INGLEWOOD, Calif. - Since Go Forth North beat maidens at Del Mar on Aug. 7, she has run in four stakes with increasingly high expectations from co-owner Shawn Turner and trainer A.C. Avila

“A.C. made me a promise when she broke her maiden that she would get better and better,” Turner said.

Avila’s summertime forecast has led to two stakes wins, including the Grade 3, $100,000 Harold Ramser Sr. Handicap at Hollywood Park on Sunday.

Violon Sacre continues to improve in Knickerbocker

Violon Sacre rallied strongly from well off the pace under Pablo Fragoso to win Sunday’s Grade 3, $100,000 Knickerbocker Stakes at Belmont Park by one length.

Whatsthescript, who set a leisurely pace on the front end, held second by 1 1/2 lengths over Baletti. He was followed in the order of finish by War Hoot, Wesley, Operation Red Dawn, and Interpatation. Presious Passion, Midnight Mischief, and Leading On scratched.

Serey collects 1,000th victory of training career

Just a Lion ($12) gave trainer Juan Serey his 1,000th career victory Sunday in the sixth race at Monmouth Park.

“It represents a lot of hard work,” said Serey, 51. “That’s really what this means to me. It’s very exciting and nice to have won my 1,000th race. It’s taken a long time and a lot of long, long days.”

A native of Santiago, Chile, Serey moved to the United States in the early 1980s and galloped horses for Oscar and Laz Barrera, John Tammaro, and Frank Martin before taking out his trainer’s license in 1991.

Celtic Convention connects at 43-1 in Cup and Saucer

ETOBICOKE, Ontario— Celtic Conviction, the longest shot in the 10-horse field of Canadian-bred 2-year-olds, won the $252,000 Cup and Saucer Stakes at 43-1 Sunday at Woodbine.

Celtic Conviction led the way on the backstretch of the 1 1/16-mile turf route, setting the opening fraction in 24.15 seconds. The favored Say No More joined him on the lead on the turn, through a half in 48.54, before assuming command early in the stretch.
