Lovely Quid looks for breakthrough

ETOBICOKE, Ontario – The lone non-claiming contest on Thursday’s eight-race card at Woodbine is a maiden special for Ontario-sired fillies and mares. The uninspiring group will divvy up a hefty $57,000 purse in the five-furlong dash.

Lovely Quid should be prominent under Emile Ramsammy, who was aboard for each of her three starts.

Plan works out perfectly for McLaughlin shippers

Redding Colliery won the Oct. 2 Hawthorne Gold Cup, Yankee Fourtune the Hawthorne Derby on Saturday. Plans rarely come off so well as the one trainer Kiaran McLaughlin formed when he decided to send the two horses here nearly two weeks ago.

“We might be sending that crew out to open a division there,” McLaughlin joked. “We really like Hawthorne.”
