Promise Me a Cat a sharp invader for Delta Downs Princess

Adam Coglianese/NYRA
Promise Me a Cat, Javier Castellano up, wins the Sweet Patootie.

Promise Me a Cat figures to get an ideal trip Saturday in the Grade 3, $500,000 Delta Downs Princess. She is one of the speediest fillies in the one-mile race, and she figures to fall into a stalking position on the move from a six-furlong stakes win at Belmont Park to the six-furlong oval in Vinton, La.

“She’s pretty adaptable as far as rating tactics, and she’s got tactical speed, which I think you need at Delta,” said Carlos Martin, who trains Promise Me a Cat for Mark Holiday.

Quality down, but handle up at Hawthorne meeting

STICKNEY, Ill. – The good news at Hawthorne Race Course this fall? Handle has ticked modestly up from the fall-winter meeting last year, and, thanks in part to four-day race weeks this season, Hawthorne is awash in horseflesh. The quality of those horses, however, has fallen steeply compared to past meetings. Saturday’s card looks about typical, with the lone allowance race for Illinois-bred entry-level allowance horses.

Premier Pegasus figures to lead the way in Hollywood Prevue

Benoit & Associates
Premier Pegasus will be looking for his third straight win in Saturday's Grade 3 Hollywood Prevue Stakes at Hollywoo Park.

INGLEWOOD, Calif. – He is not exactly revealing trade secrets, but jockey Alonso Quinonez has a plan for how to ride Premier Pegasus in Saturday’s $100,000 Hollywood Prevue Stakes.

“I think it will be easy to get the lead and then he can relax,” Quinonez said. “I shouldn’t say that. Now, the other jockeys will know.”

Quinonez has ridden Premier Pegasus to wins in both the colt’s two starts – a 44-1 upset in a maiden race at Del Mar over 5 1/2 furlongs on July 24 and a front-running win in the Jack Goodman Stakes over six furlongs here Oct. 23.
