Lincoln: Honkytonk Stomp may be one to catch in Speed

Honkytonk Stomp heads a field of 10 set to contest the $15,000 Speed Stakes at Lincoln Race Course on Saturday afternoon.

Honkytonk Stomp, trained by Dudley Graham, should be the speed of the speed in this 4 1/2-furlong dash. After winning an open allowance at Beulah Park in January, Honkytonk Stomp returned to Nebraska with a powerful 4 1/2-length win in the half-mile Grasmick Stakes, where he equaled Leaping Plum’s track record of 44.20 seconds.

Monmouth Park: Season opens admidst uncertainty of what happens beyond June 12

OCEANPORT, N.J. – There are few things that can be said with absolute certainty about the Monmouth Park meet that starts Saturday at 12:50 p.m. Eastern with an 11-race card.

The New Jersey Sports and Exposition Authority has issued a condition book that runs through June 12. The NJSEA, the owner and operator of Monmouth since 1986, is committed to run the track until then.

Beyond that, the picture gets fuzzy with a new operator possibly in place. The NJSEA has entered into negotiations with Morris Bailey, a long-time horse owner, to lease Monmouth.
