Woodbine: Tu Endie Wei preps on dirt for Polytrack stakes on Keeneland

Tu Endie Wei breezed four furlongs in 48.40 seconds under jockey Jim McAleney on the dirt training track here at Woodbine on Friday, her first workout since winning the 6 1/2-furlong Ontario Debutante on Aug. 13.

“I work all of my horses there, if it’s not muddy,” said trainer Reade Baker.

A Kentucky-bred who races for her owner and breeder, Brereton C. Jones, Tu Endie Wei is scheduled to make her next start in the Grade 1, $300,000 Alcibiades at Keeneland on Oct. 7.

Woodbine: Making Amends tunes up for Summer Stakes

Making Amends also breezed five furlongs for Casse on Friday, going in company in 1:01.20 with Jason Hoyte aboard, preparing for Saturday’s Summer Stakes at Woodbine

The $250,000 Summer and its sister feature, the Grade 3 Natalma, both are one-mile turf races which offer Grade 3 status and are part of the Breeders’ Cup Challenge Win and You’re In series.

Belmont: Pompay ponders next move with Currency Swap

Trainer Terri Pompay must decide whether to give Hopeful winner Currency Swap a prep in the Champagne or train up to the Breeders' Cup Juvenile.

Hopeful winner Currency Swap returned to his Monmouth Park base on Tuesday, but will not return to the track until the beginning of next week as his connections consider what to do next with their undefeated 2-year-old colt.

Trainer Terri Pompay said that Currency Swap “was a little tired” coming out of Monday’s Hopeful but by Friday morning “he was playing a little bit.” Pompay said that Currency Swap will just be ridden around the shed this weekend before returning to the track next week.

Belmont: McLaughlin experiments by reducing use of Lasix

Trainer Kiaran McLaughlin is a strong proponent of Lasix. But with a movement afoot to ban Lasix in certain races and jurisdictions next year, McLaughlin did not use Lasix on four of his 2-year-olds during the Saratoga meet. He went 1 for 4 with non-Lasix users, the one win being with Alpha, who on Sept. 3 won a seven-furlong maiden race by six lengths.

Thistledown: Faulkner sends out 1,000th winner

NORTH RANDALL, Ohio - Trainer Rodney Faulkner saddled his 1,000th winner on Friday when Fire Chief captured the second race at Thistledown. Faulkner began training in 1992 and has a career record of 1,000-994-881 from 6,968 starts. Horses trained by Faulkner have earned $7,083,773.

Los Alamitos: Farias takes three shots at Go Man Go Handicap

Trainer Adan Farias will attack Sunday night’s $100,000 Go Man Go Handicap for Quarter Horses at Los Alamitos with two of the nation’s top older horses, Chivalry Sr and Snitcher, and classy comebacker A Streakinson.

The 400-yard race drew a field of 10 horses, and it could have an impact on the field for the Grade 1, $750,000 Champion of Champions later in the meet. Although the Go Man Go itself does not provide a berth into that race, the winner Sunday night will receive first preference into the Champion of Champions field if an invited horse defects.

Belmont: Buffum in position to make some noise this fall for Godolphin

The 3-year-old Buffum makes the second start of his current form cycle in a second-level allowance Sunday at Belmont Park.

ELMONT, N.Y. – It has been a quiet year in North America for Sheikh Mohammed’s Godolphin Stable. One horse who could make a little bit of noise this fall is Buffum, who heads a field of seven entered in a second-level allowance race carded at one mile at Belmont Park on Sunday.

Buffum, a 3-year-old son of Bernardini, was a debut winner at Belmont last fall and was immediately elevated into graded stakes company and finished last of five, beaten 20 lengths by To Honor and Serve in the Grade 2 Remsen.
