Stakes winner Cairo Memories euthanized due to illness

Benoit Photo
Cairo Memories has drawn inside posts in her last two races and had to be used early to maintain position.

Three-time stakes winner Cairo Memories was recently euthanized in Kentucky because of illness, trainer Bob Hess Jr. said Tuesday.

Cairo Memories was transferred from California in early November to be sold at the Fasig-Tipton November auction, but was withdrawn because of illness. The 3-year-old filly’s condition deteriorated through the month.

“She got sick on the flight,” Hess said. “She left in good shape. She seemed fine and then I got a call from my consignor.

“It unraveled in front of us.”

DEL MAR, Calif. – Jockey Flavien Prat won six races on a single card for the fourth time in his career on Sunday at Del Mar, and for the second time this year.

Prat equals Bill Shoemaker, Laffit Pincay Jr., and Rudy Rosales as jockeys who have won six races on a program at Del Mar. Pincay won six races twice.

Prat has won six races at Santa Anita three times, most recently on Jan. 1 of this year.
