Parx: Baltimore Belle makes rare appearance outside Maryland for Sleigh Ride

Jim McCue/Maryland Jockey Club
Baltimore Belle, a stakes winner on turf in her previous start, scores on the dirt under jockey Julian Pimentel in the Geisha for Maryland-bred fillies and mares.

Baltimore Belle, a proven stakes winner in her native Maryland but never before asked to run on a main track out of state, faces Orbiston Parva, whose fondness for the surface at Parx Racing may outweigh her lack of stakes experience, in Tuesday’s $75,000 Sleigh Ride at Parx.

Based at Laurel Park with trainer Mike Trombetta, Baltimore Belle was a two-time stakes winner on dirt in 2001, taking the off-the-turf Dahlia going 1 1/16 miles at Pimlico in late April and the restricted Geisha going a one-turn mile at Laurel last time out on Dec. 10.

Majestic City will switch to grass for the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf at Churchill Downs.

ARCADIA, Calif. – Majestic City, the winner of two sprint stakes last summer, is being rested for 45 days and is off the Triple Crown trail.

Trained by Peter Miller, Majestic City has won 3 of 7 starts and $245,570 for owner Jeff Bloom. Majestic City was 13th in the CashCall Futurity at Hollywood Park on Dec. 17, his most recent start. Miller said that Majestic City will be sent to a farm in Hemet, Calif., for a rest.

“He’s just pooped,” Miller said. “We’re going to let him be a horse for 45 days. We’ll bring him back for a late spring and summer campaign.”
