Brass Hat disqualified from Dubai World Cup placing

Brass Hat, the second-place finisher in the $6 million Dubai World Cup on March 25, has been disqualified from the race by stewards at Nad Al Sheba racecourse after testing positive for a corticosteroid, according to the horse's trainer, Buff Bradley, and Bradley's attorney.

The disqualification, which will be appealed Bradley said Wednesday, could cost Brass Hat the $1.2 million second-place share of the Dubai World Cup purse. Also as part of the ruling Bradley was fined 20,000 dirhams, or approximately $5,445.

Aidan O'Brien announced on Tuesday that George Washington and Horatio Nelson, both owned by Coolmore, will run in Saturday's 2000 Guineas Stakes at Newmarket, but the performances of Coolmore's 3-year-olds this season have cast a shadow over their chances in the one-mile British classic.

Deep Impact did as the world expected in Kyoto on Sunday, cruising to a 1-10 victory in the $2.25 million Spring Tenno Sho, or Emperor's Cup.

The Yasuo Ikee-trained son of Sunday Silence has now won nine of his ten career starts, having tasted defeat only at the hands of Heart's Cry in the Arima Kinen last Christmas Day at Nakayama. His four-length rout of Lincoln, the 13-1 second choice in the Tenno Sho, now puts him on course for an intended European campaign expected to culminate in the Prix de l'Aec de Triomphe at Longchamp on Oct. 1.
