So You Think upsets Cox Plate in Australia

Bart Cummings, Australia's 82-year-old training legend, did it again on Saturday when he saddled So You Think to a 14-1 upset victory in the $2.75 million, Group 1 Cox Plate at Moonee Valley. Ridden by Greg Boss, the 3-year-old son of two-time Breeders' Cup Turf winner High Chaparral burst out of the gate on top and never looked back, defeating the 19-1 Manhattan Rain by 2 1/2 lengths.

St Nicholas Abbey proves he's Europe's best

St Nicholas Abbey pulls off impressively at Doncaster on Saturday to win the Group 1 Racing Post Trophy, drawing comparisons to last year's winner Sea the Stars.

St Nicholas Abbey more than lived up to his advance billing at Doncaster on Saturday when he came from last-to-first on the bridle to win the $332,000 Racing Post Trophy. Johnny Murtagh never raised his whip as the Montjeu colt stormed clear for a 3 3/4-length victory in the Group 1 mile for 2-year-olds.

Early test for Epsom Derby hopefuls

St Nicholas Abbey, installed as the favorite for next year's Epsom Derby after his victory in the Group 2 Beresford Stakes at the Curragh on Sept. 27, travels to England for the first time in his brief career on Saturday for the one-mile $332,000 Racing Post Trophy at Doncaster. The spotlight will be on St Nicholas Abbey, an Aidan O'Brien-trained son of Montjeu, as the Beresford is the race in which Sea the Stars concluded his juvenile season, so early comparisons to the retired Arc winner will be the order of the day.

Whobegotyou fits Cox Plate well

Whobegotyou can put his 4-for-4 record at Moonee Valley to good advantage on Saturday in the $2.75 million Cox Plate, a 1 1/4-mile, 44-yard, Group 1 stakes that serves as the last major prep for the two-mile Melbourne Cup on Nov. 3.

Trained by Mark Kavanagh, Whobegotyou is coming off a victory in the 1 1/4-mile, Group 1 Yalumba Stakes at Caulfield on Oct. 10, when he beat his Cox Plate rival Heart of Dreams by three-quarters of a length. Vision and Power, who was third that day, also tries Whobegotyou again.

Dates for Dubai Carnival set

The Emirates Racing Authority announced its Dubai International Racing Carnival schedule for 2010 on Tuesday. The 17-race, $4.1 million program, which will be run at the glittering new facility at Meydan, will kick off as usual with Round 1 of the Maktoum Challenge. The one-mile, Group 3 race, worth $200,000, will be the opening night feature at Meydan and will be run on the track's new synthetic Tapeta surface.
