Royal Ascot, the five-day-long summer highlight of the British flat racing season, gets under way in spectacular style on Tuesday with the first three races all holding Group 1 status.

Vodka successfully defended her $1.98 million Yasuda Kinen title at Tokyo on Sunday as she finished with a late rush to defeat Deep Sky by three-quarters of a length in the Grade 1 mile. The victory was her sixth at the highest level and increased her lifetime earnings to $9,552,907, a world record for fillies and mares.

Le Havre capped a huge day for Jean-Claude Rouget and Christophe Lemaire at Chantilly on Sunday as he came with a late run to win the $2 million Prix du Jockey-Club, or French Derby. The victory by Le Havre, the French 2000 Guineas runner-up, completed a stakes triple for the white-hot trainer/jockey tandem, as they had earlier teamed to produce Quetsche in the 1 1/2-mile, Group 3 Prix de Royaumont and Oiseau de Feu in the one-mile, Group 3 Prix Paul de Moussac.
