Two years ago, Kingsgate Native won the five-furlong Nunthorpe Stakes, beating older horses as a 2-year-old. Third in the race last year, the Michael Stoute-trained son of Mujadil will start as the favorite for the Group 1, $397,000 dash Friday, closing day of York's four-day Ebor Meeting. His main challenger could be the juvenile Radiohead.

Sea the Stars got the job done at the business end of Tuesday's $980,000 Juddmonte International Stakes at York as he ran down the classy miler Mastercraftsman in the 1 1/4-mile, 88-yard Group 1 event. The race, however, was strictly a tactical affair as the withdrawal on Monday of Tartan Bearer due to lameness reduced the field to just four: Sea the Stars and Mastercraftsman plus a pair of outclassed Aidan O'Brien-employed pacesetters for Mastercraftsman.

Trainer John Oxx is keeping his fingers crossed in hopes that the weather will remain dry at York so Sea the Stars will be able to take his place in the $992,000 Juddmonte International Stakes on Tuesday. The world's highest rated horse, Sea the Stars will run in the 1 1/4-mile, 88-yard, Group 1 test only if the going is good or better.

"I think she is better than Miesque," said Freddy Head of his superb filly Goldikova after last year's Breeders' Cup Mile winner romped to a six-length victory in the $852,000 Prix Jacques le Marois at Deauville on Sunday. And Head should know, as he rode Miesque to all eight of her Group or Grade 1 triumphs and has now trained Goldikova to six of the same, with the strong possibility of more to follow.

The undefeated Hungarian sprint sensation Overdose is out for the year, his owner Zoltan Mikoczy announced on Friday. Plagued by hoof problems throughout his career, Overdose threw both his front shoes when winning a five-furlong stake by eight lengths at Kincsem Park in Budapest on April 19, but new shoes only worsened the problem. Having made little progress in a rehabilitation center near Nantes, France, he was sent to Amanda Perret's yard in Sussex, England, where the decision to end his season was made.

Godolphin, which won six races in England on Friday, remained hot on Saturday as Kite Wood emerged as a leading candidate for the St. Leger Stakes with a 3 1/2-length victory in the Group 3, $107,000 Geoffrey Freer Stakes at Newbury.

The only 3-year-old in the field of eight, the 11-10 son of Galileo prevailed under Frankie Dettori over the veteran Halicarnassus, clocking 2:48.87 on good to firm ground for the 1 5/8-miles, 61 yards.

Goldikova returns to the races at Deauville on Sunday just two weeks after her brilliant victory in the Prix Rothschild. The occasion is the Group 1, $857,000 Prix Jacques le Marois on the same straight mile on which she scored a handy 1 1/2-length victory over French 1000 Guineas winner Elusive Wave and 10 other fillies and mares on Aug. 1.

Soneva rallied from last to first under a cool ride by Christophe Soumillon to take the Group 3, $113,000 Prix de Lieurey at Deauville on Thursday, confirming her 2.40-1 favoritism. A 3-year-old Kentucky-bred filly by Cherokee Run and trained by Yves de Nicolay, she ran out a two-length winner over Emergency, clocking a tepid 1:45.50 for the one-turn mile on good-to-soft ground. Wilside, winner of the recent Group 3 Prix Chloe, was third, one length farther back.

Sea the Stars has been nominated to Tuesday's Juddmonte International Stakes at York, but trainer John Oxx has warned that the highest-rated horse in the world will not run in the 1 1/4-mile, 88-yard Group 1 contest if the ground is not at least good or better on the day.

During its 30 years as a listed race, the Prix de Lieurey has produced a number of future North American stakes winners, among them Kool Kat Katie (E.P. Taylor), Heaven's Command (Violet Handicap), and Bright Abundance (Noble Damsel), as well as three-time ungraded stakes winner Zeiting. In the 1980s the Lieurey was won by both Pasadoble, the dam of two-time Breeders' Cup Mile winner Miesque, and Albertine, the dam of Breeders' Cup Classic winner Arcangues.
