Spinning Memories’s fondness for seven-furlong races takes him to Clairefontaine Racecourse for the first time in his career.
The trip couldn’t have been anticipated as recently as early March, before the coronavirus pandemic started shuttering racecourses the world over. Spinning Memories travels to Clairefontaine, which sits a stone’s throw east of Deauville Racecourse near the English Channel, for the Group 3 Prix du Palais-Royal.
It took a horse forming a winning streak to end the winning streak of the gelding Inquiry in a handicap at Doomben Racecourse on May 9.
Inquiry had won his four previous starts before he finished second to Red Chase by 4 1/4 lengths in a handicap at 6 3/4 furlongs at Doomben. Red Chase had won his previous start and returned to win a handicap on May 23 at Eagle Farm.
Gold Rhapsody, the 4-year-old Southern Hemisphere filly, is a neck away from a three-race winning streak.
After consecutive wins at Port Macquarie and Taree Racecourses in April, Gold Rhapsody could not catch Crackneck in a five-furlong handicap on May 8 at Coffs Harbour, just missing at odds of 5-2.
It would be no surprise if Gold Rhapsody was a shorter price in a five-furlong handicap at Gosford Racecourse, north of Sydney, on Thursday.

Maui Girl returned from a layoff of just less than 18 months to win a handicap at 6 3/4 furlongs at Wyong Racecourse in Australia on April 30. A little more than two weeks later, Maui Girl was just as sharp, winning a handicap at 7 1/2 furlongs at Kembla Grange on May 16.
Trained by Jason Coyle, Maui Girl takes a leap in class in a handicap at 7 3/4 furlongs at Canterbury Park on Wednesday. Maui Girl’s recent wins make her the likely favorite in a field of 10.
Buddies has the current form, the proven record over the Sha Tin dirt track, and even a counterbalance to his hefty weight assignment in Wednesday’s featured race 4 on the Hong Kong circuit.
Wednesday night racing in Hong Kong typically takes place at Happy Valley, but this week’s program, first post 6:45 a.m. Eastern, comes at the regular weekend track, Sha Tin.

Daring Tact is unbeaten after four starts and two-thirds the way through the Triple Crown for 3-year-old fillies in Japan after a win in Sunday’s Grade 1 Japanese Oaks at Tokyo Racecourse.
Daring Tact, who paid $3.20 in North American pools, won the Japanese Oaks by a half-length over 25-1 Win Marilyn, who finished a neck in front of 60-1 Win Mighty in the field of 18.
Ridden by Kohei Matsuyama for trainer Haruki Sugiyama, Daring Tact closed from 12th and overcame traffic issues in early stretch to catch Win Marilyn in the final sixteenth.
The filly Trajection and the gelding Whispered were separated by a head at the finish of a seven-furlong handicap on May 9 at Newcastle Racecourse in Australia.
The two Southern Hemisphere 3-year-olds seem to be stuck with each other, at least regarding another meeting in a seven-furlong handicap Tuesday at Newcastle.
