Australia: Bow faces tough class test in handicap sprint

The Australian gelding Bow was unbeaten in two starts in June, leading to a start in a tougher handicap at Grafton Racecourse on Saturday evening.

The class hike will test Bow, who won consecutive starts for the first time in his nine-race career in handicap sprints at tiny Bowraville Racecourse at five furlongs on June 3, and at a slightly higher profile venue at six furlongs at Port Macquarie on June 18.

Australia: Versatile Grebeni makes stakes debut

Unbeaten in three starts since mid-May, Grebeni will have his stakes debut in the Group 3 Winx Stakes for Southern Hemisphere 3-year-old milers at Sunshine Coast Racecourse near Brisbane on Friday evening, a class test for the improving gelding.

A winner of 4 of 9 starts, Grebeni has won handicaps at distances ranging from a mile to 1 1/8 miles in the current winning streak, including two lucrative races at 1 1/8 miles at Rosehill Gardens Racecourse in Sydney on June 3 and June 17.

Australia: Adelsun will look to rally in Scone handicap

From an inside post, the 4-year-old filly Adelsun is likely to race from the back of the field in a one-mile handicap at Scone Racecourse in Australia on Thursday evening.

Considering the rally she has shown at times in her 11-race career, Adelsun will not be trailing for too long. In each of her three wins, Adelsun has closed well from off the pace, including in her last start in a seven-furlong handicap at Tamworth Racecourse on June 9.

Australia: Baroque Road knocking on the door

Baroque Road, the Australian-bred gelding with an American pedigree, has had an unlucky series of races since returning from a three-month layoff in May.

Baroque Road had troubled trips in sprints on May 17 and June 12, finishing second by less than a length in the latter race.

The near misses leave Baroque Road as a solid favorite to win for the second time in his seventh start in a handicap at 6 1/2 furlongs at Hawkesbury Racecourse outside of Sydney on Wednesday evening.

Australia: Growl faces tall task in Warwick Farm handicap

The 4-year-old gelding Growl, who has been raced sparingly in Australia in the last few years, will have the difficult job of playing spoiler against the odds-on favorite Green Shadows in a seven-furlong handicap at Warwick Farm Racecourse in Sydney on Tuesday evening.

Australia: Purse increase for Everest Stakes makes it world's second-richest race

The Everest Stakes at Royal Randwick Racecourse in Sydney, Australia, already the world’s richest turf race, will surpass the historic Dubai World Cup as the world’s second-richest race later this year with a purse increase to approximately $13.35 million at current exchange rates.

The race will be worth $20 million Australian dollars, an increase from $15 million Australian dollars last October, which at the time was equivalent to $9.3 million American dollars.
