Australia, Tamahere tries for win on third continent in Randwick stake

The well-traveled Tamahere won stakes in France, and at Belmont Park and Monmouth Park in 2020 and 2021.

Now racing on her third continent, Tamahere has not had the same measure of success in Australia, going winless in her first three starts in the country.

The losing streak has a chance to end in the $105,900 Winter Stakes at seven furlongs at Royal Randwick Racecourse in Sydney on Friday evening. A 6-year-old mare, Tamahere will start for the second time this year as part of a full field of 14.

Australia: Miss Shalaa, Ollie’s Secret head handicap tilt at Tamworth

With a minute amount of luck, Miss Shalaa and Ollie’s Secret would have won their last starts in Australia in June.

Both closed from stalking positions to finish second by a nose, Ollie’s Secret in a handicap at 6 1/2 furlongs on the Beaumont course at Newcastle on June 19, and Miss Shalaa in a one-mile handicap at Gosford Racecourse on June 22.

They meet for the first time in a one-mile handicap at Tamworth Racecourse on Thursday evening. Ollie’s Secret (2-1) and Miss Shalaa (9-2) were at the head of betting on Wednesday morning.

Australia: Du Jour Idea facing easier, runs well fresh

A five-month layoff may not be a burden for the 4-year-old filly Du Jour Idea in a six-furlong handicap at Gosford Racecourse in Australia on Wednesday evening.

Du Jour Idea won a maiden race in her fourth career start following a layoff of more than three months in January and finished a good third in her next start in a six-furlong handicap in February.

Both of those races were at Gosford where Du Jour Idea is based with trainer Kylie Gavenlock.

Australia: Allasandra streaks into Royal Randwick sprint

The Australian filly Allasandra was eight races into her career before she beat maidens in a sprint race at Wyong Racecourse in April.

She has not lost since, winning her next two starts against winners in sprint handicaps at Newcastle and on the infield Kensington course at Royal Randwick Racecourse in Sydney in June.

Allasandra is back on the Kensington course on Tuesday evening for a start in a sprint against fillies and mares at 6 1/2 furlongs against the same class level as her recent win at the track on June 14.

Australia: Always In tries one mile for first time in Monday handicap

A one-mile handicap at Scone Racecourse in Australia on Monday evening will be a stamina test for the lightly raced filly Always In.

Always In will start at the distance for the first time following two promising races in seven-furlong handicaps at Newcastle in June. Always In was fourth by 1 2/3 lengths on June 3, and second by 2 1/4 lengths on June 24. In both races, Always In closed from off the pace to gain her best position at the finish.

Auguste Rodin adds Irish Derby to his victory list

Auguste Rodin became the 19th horse to win the English and Irish Derby when he pushed past his Aidan O’Brien-trained stablemate Adelaide River to win the 1 1/2-mile Classic on Sunday at The Curragh.

It was the 15th Irish Derby win for O’Brien, but the first for jockey Ryan Moore. O’Brien also sent out the runner-up, Adelaide River, who stayed on bravely after being headed by odds-on favorite Auguste Rodin in the final quarter-mile.

Australia: Kissing Supido one to catch in Muswellbrook handicap

The speedy gelding Kissing Supido may prove impossible to catch in a five-furlong handicap at Muswellbrook Racecourse in Australia on Sunday evening.

Kissing Supido was beaten in his first six starts before he led throughout a six-furlong maiden race at Port Macquarie on June 18. A Southern Hemisphere 3-year-old, Kissing Supido had been third in his two preceding starts at five furlongs, losing by 1 1/2 lengths at Gosford on May 25 and by 1 3/4 lengths at Hawkesbury on June 11.
