Texas Racing Commission to prohibit out-of-state wagering starting July 1

The Texas Racing Commission will not allow Thoroughbred races from Texas tracks to be exported to out-of-state locations or account-wagering companies as of July 1, the commission said in a letter released earlier this week and confirmed by the commission’s executive director on Tuesday.

Twenty members elected to Breeders' Cup

Foal and stallion nominators to the Breeders’ Cup have elected 20 individuals to serve as members, Breeders’ Cup announced on Tuesday.

The 20 members, who will all serve four-year terms, are: Rory Babich, Antony Beck, Gatewood Bell, Case Clay, Alan Cooper, Everett Dobson, William S. Farish Jr., H. Greg Goodman, Jonathan Green, Fred W. Hertrich, Jak Knelman, M.V. Magnier, Pope McLean Jr., Gavin Murphy, Garret O’Rourke, Mike Pons, Daisy Phipps Pulito, Jaime Roth, Tom Ryan, and Shunsuke Yoshida. All but Babich, Green, and Yoshida were standing for reelection.

Half of racing participants have registered with HISA ahead of July 1 deadline

Total betting on U.S. horse races in the month of May was statistically even with the same month last year, according to figures released by Equibase on Monday.

Betting in May was $1.414 billion this May, down $2 million from betting of $1.416 billion in May last year, according to the figures. Last year, betting figures for May included the Kentucky Derby card but not the Kentucky Oaks card, which was held on April 30. This year, both the Oaks and the Derby cards were held in May.

Breeders' Cup offers starting-fee incentives for dirt races through prep series

Breeders’ Cup has created an incentive program to encourage participation in six of the dirt races that are part of its two-day event, the organization announced on Thursday.

For the program, Breeders’ Cup has designated 12 stakes races scheduled in the months prior to its event that will award credits to the owners of the top three finishers in each race. The credits can be applied to entry fees for the races, Breeders’ Cup said.
