Preciado permitted to enter horses at Parx starting Friday

The management of Parx Racing has agreed to resume accepting entries from trainer Ramon Preciado, starting Friday.

The agreement between Parx and Alan Pincus, one of the attorneys representing Preciado, comes two days after Pincus filed a federal lawsuit in the middle district court of Pennsylvania against Sam Elliott, the director of racing at Parx, and Walter Remmert, the executive director of the Pennsylvania Racing Commission.

California Internet poker bill moves forward

Legislation that would legalize Internet poker in California and provide California racing interests with a $60 million annual subsidy for the loss of exclusive online gambling passed an Assembly committee on Wednesday without opposition.

The Assembly Government Organization Committee approved the measure by a vote of 19-0 and forwarded the legislation to the Assembly Appropriations Committee. A date for the next hearing was not available on Thursday morning.

Welfare and Safety of the Racehorse Summit set for June 28

LEXINGTON, Ky. – A one-day conference focusing on issues related to the health and safety of racehorses has been scheduled for June 28 at Keeneland in Lexington, the organizers of the conference announced on Thursday.

The event, the Welfare and Safety of the Racehorse Summit, will be the seventh conference of its kind held since 2006. The conference is organized by the Grayson-Jockey Club Research Foundation and its parent, The Jockey Club, and it has been hosted by Keeneland since its inception.

Ziadie granted stay of six-year suspension

Trainer Kirk Ziadie has received a stay of a six-year suspension handed down in December by the Florida Division of Pari-Mutuel Wagering, his attorney said on Wednesday.

A Florida appellate court granted the stay on April 21, according to Brad Beilly, Ziadie’s attorney. The stay will likely remain in place until the court rules on Ziadie’s appeal of the suspension, which could take six months to a year, Beilly estimated.

Bevin appoints 11 new members to Kentucky Horse Racing Commission

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Kentucky Gov. Matt Bevin on Wednesday named 11 new members to a revamped 12-member Kentucky Horse Racing Commission, overhauling a panel that had been praised in recent years for its attention to racing matters and the expertise of its members.

Frank Kling, a breeder who is the chairman and chief executive of FK Holdings, based in Cincinnati, was named chairman for a two-year term. Kling is a former member of the racing commission, serving from 2006-09.

Churchill Downs Racing Club sells out shares

The new Churchill Downs Racing Club already has sold out its initial 200-member allotment and is working on filling a second group, according to Gary Palmisano Jr., who is helping to manage the club.

For $500, a Racing Club member gets fractional ownership of a Thoroughbred to be trained by D. Wayne Lukas and other perks. The first horse will be a 2-year-old whom Lukas hopes to debut at the upcoming meet.

Speckert to resign as general counsel of Kentucky Horse Racing Commission

Susan Speckert, the general counsel for the Kentucky Horse Racing Commission, will leave the agency in late May for another job, the latest in a string of departures at the commission since the election of Gov. Matt Bevin last November.
