Del Mar: Pick six carryover of $82,426 for Thursday holiday program

DEL MAR, Calif. – There will be plenty of money awaiting fans betting the Thanksgiving Day card at Del Mar on Thursday after no one hit the pick six on Sunday, producing a carryover of $82,426 in the general pool and adding to the growing carryover in the single-ticket jackpot pool.

 The single-ticket jackpot pool has not been hit for three days, and now stands at $58,120. A single winning ticket on Thursday would take down both pools.

California Chrome could race once before Pegasus

DEL MAR, Calif. – It wasn’t long after California Chrome worked Saturday morning at Los Alamitos that trainer Art Sherman’s phone rang at Del Mar. His son, Alan, was quite excited on the other end.

“He called right after the work,” said Sherman, who was looking after the horses he has stabled here at Del Mar. “He said he went really well.”

Sunland Derby set for March

The Grade 3, $800,000 Sunland Derby, which was not run this year due to an outbreak of equine herpesvirus at Sunland Park, will headline the New Mexico track’s stakes program during the meet that opens Dec. 16. The stakes schedule was announced Wednesday.

The Sunland Derby, at 1 1/8 miles, is set to share a card with the $250,000 Sunland Park Oaks at 1 1/16 miles March 26.

Sunland puts on a mixed meet for Thoroughbreds and Quarter Horses.

Del Mar: Pick six pays $1 million to one lucky player

DEL MAR, Calif. – A single ticket took down the pick six on Sunday at Del Mar and was worth $1,041,696, bringing to a close an exciting initial three days of the meeting in which the pick six carried over into Sunday, producing the blockbuster payoff.

 Colonel Samsen, one of just three covered horses in the final leg, ran down uncovered Ice Kat in the final strides. Had Ice Kat held on, the pick six would have gone unclaimed again, and there would have been three-day carryovers totaling more than $1 million into Thursday, when racing resumes.

Del Mar: Pick six carryover of $203,127 for Sunday's card

DEL MAR, Calif. – Two days in, and no one has yet to hit the pick six at Del Mar, so there are significant carryovers into Sunday’s nine-race card, which begins at 12:30 p.m. Pacific.

 The carryover in the general pick six pool is up to $203,127 after no one hit the pick six on Friday or Saturday. There is another $43,527 in the jackpot carryover pool, reserved for any single winning ticket.

Turf racing done for season at Remington Park

 Remington Park has closed its turf course for the remainder of the meet, which ends Dec. 11, the track announced on Thursday. The move is due to winter weather in Oklahoma City. Remington ran 117 races on turf through its first 51 cards this meet, according to the track, and had an average turf field size of 8.8 horses.

Arkansas Racing Commission approves pick five for Oaklawn Park

The Arkansas Racing Commission on Thursday took the first step to paving the way for a pick five wager at Oaklawn Park. The agency adopted a rule allowing the track to offer the bet, subject to approval by the state’s legislative rules review committee in December, said commission attorney Byron Freeland. If the rule is cleared, it would go into effect Jan. 1, 2017. Oaklawn opens on Jan. 13.
