Thoroughbred Center quarantines barn after equine herpesvirus positive

A barn at the Thoroughbred Center, a training facility outside Lexington, Ky., has been placed in quarantine after a horse there exhibited signs of equine herpesvirus and tested positive for being exposed to the disease, according to the Kentucky Office of the State Veterinarian.

Instant Racing bill advances in Virginia

Kentucky bill would make Breeders' Cup tax break permanent

The Kentucky House of Representatives has approved a bill that will grant tax breaks to Breeders’ Cup Ltd. any time it holds its two-day event at a track in the state.

The House approved the bill on Monday, and it is expected to gain approval in the Kentucky Senate. The bill was introduced and sponsored by Rep. Dave Osborne, a Louisville-area Republican who is a horse owner and breeder.

Seven horses added to Kentucky Derby Future Wager Pool 2

At 8-1, McKinzie has the lowest odds for an individually listed horse in Pool 2 of the Kentucky Derby Future Wager.

Seven new names are in the lineup for Pool 2 of the 2018 Kentucky Derby Future Wager, which opens Friday at noon Eastern for the customary three-day run.

The mutuel field, the 24th or “all others” option, has been pegged as the 7-2 morning-line favorite in Pool 2 by Churchill Downs linemaker Mike Battaglia, with McKinzie the shortest individually listed interest at 8-1. Then come Bolt d’Oro and Good Magic, both at 10-1, and Audible and Mask, both at 12-1.

Delta Downs bans Turfway shippers

Delta Downs in Vinton, La., has become the latest track to ban shippers from Turfway Park in Northern Kentucky, citing a case of equine herpesvirus diagnosed at the track last week.

In a notice to horsemen, Delta said the ban was “temporary” and was put in place “to ensure the health and safety of [the] Delta Downs horse population.”

JPMorgan Chase letting customers fund betting accounts with credit card

JPMorgan Chase, the largest bank in the U.S., has begun allowing customers of account-wagering companies to use credit cards issued in the bank’s name to fund their accounts, the National Thoroughbred Racing Association announced Tuesday.

The decision by the bank, which has more than 80 million active credit-card accounts, removes a hurdle faced by some customers of account-wagering companies when attempting to deposit funds. While JPMorgan had allowed customers to use cards linked to their checking accounts for deposits, it had blocked credit-card deposits.
