The late pick four sequence at Aqueduct today is playable, with a couple of price horses I could use as “A’s.” Let’s go after it.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – After beginning the Sunday card with a few short fields, the races at Churchill are refreshingly large over the final two thirds of the day – the benefit of fewer tracks racing in November compared to other times of the year.
The featured ninth drew 11 runners, with many being speed horses. And in part for that reason, the choice is DOUBLE OURS (#4), a stalker who should sit the perfect trip behind a hot pace.
Clement in Canada
Esteemed New York trainer Christophe Clement had one of the most lucrative days of his career here on Oct. 23, 2005, when he won the $2 million Canadian International with Relaxed Gesture and the $500,000 Nearctic Stakes with Steel Light.
Two prime wagering opportunities Sunday at Del Mar are late in the card, races 7 and 8.
Unfortunately for bettors hoping to string together a pick three or pick four, the races surrounding races 7 and 8 are land mines.
Race 6 is a soft maiden-20. Good luck with that. Race 9 is a turf route for California-bred maidens. Good luck with that, also. I picked favorites in both races (Rosa Divina in race 6; Itsgetinhotinhere, race 9). I will not bet either race.
However, the two middle prices in races 7-8 are worth hammering in a cold double.
Horseplayers with an affinity for the turf-to-dirt angle will find ample opportunities throughout Sunday’s card, beginning with the opener, a $20,000 maiden claimer where no fewer than seven of the eight fillies and mares entered are coming off a grass race.
The exception is That’s No Limit, who appeared to dislike a sloppy track last week, and ran a couple races on Aqueduct’s main track last spring that could make her competitive.
After a noticeable outside flow on the main track the past three days, combined with a turf course that’s been in use for a grand total of three races so far this month and not at all since Wednesday, you’d have to be crazy to start off Saturday’s card with a 50-cent pick five play before seeing how things are playing.
So of course, here we go with a caveman ticket that leans heavily on David Jacobson, whose last 14 runners have posted a 7-2-3 record, including three wins Friday.
In this piece, I’m supposed tell you what my strategy is for tackling Saturday’s card at Aqueduct, but aside from offering a couple of general ideas, this is a rare occasion where I’m simply unable to fulfill my mission.
Why? Because of the way Aqueduct’s main track played the first three days of this racing week.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – A 10-race card highlighted by the Grade 3 River City Handicap – one of the better stakes races across the country – comprises the day’s racing Saturday at Churchill Downs.
Good betting race that it is – having written at length about the River City in a column that appeared earlier in Daily Racing Form – the focus of this preview will be on other races and other wagering opportunities.
