Formulating “how-to” strategy for an entire program is similar to preliminary analysis of an individual race. It’s called the process of elimination.

More than half the races Sunday at Santa Anita can be eliminated from consideration. They are virtually unplayable due to field size. In small fields, value is rare.

There aren’t too many good-sized fields on this card, making putting together a multi-race wager a bit tricky. But the one fully subscribed race (race 4) down the hill gives you some options kicking off a mid-card pick three.

Race 4

Saturday’s card at Gulfstream is a challenging one. I’m going to concentrate on a pick three wager using a couple of horses listed at juicy odds on the morning line.

Race 7

The Grade 2 Inside Information Stakes features a heavy favorite in Merry Meadow (2). The 5-year-old mare has been on an absolute tear, winning her last three starts including two graded events at this meeting. Despite her gigantic advantage on paper, I’ll merely use her as a backup on my Ticketmaker bet.

There are two stakes races at Santa Anita on Saturday, and if you think the two morning-line favorites are vulnerable, you may be able to make a score. I’ll look to play both of those races.
