Watchmaker: Breeders' Cup Saturday late pick four

The Breeders’ Cup late pick four sequence Saturday that ends with the Classic might be the marquee 50-cent multirace exotics offering of the weekend. But in reality, this sequence is potentially one of the least-interesting pick-whatever sequences on Friday and Saturday at Keeneland. And that is because two of the four heaviest favorites in the 13 Breeders’ Cup events – Golden Horn and American Pharoah – are in Saturday’s late pick four sequence.

Bernier: Keeneland pick five play for Friday, Oct. 30

Breeders’ Cup weekend kicks off with a $500,000-guaranteed pick five on the first five races of Friday’s card at Keeneland. Although they may not be classified as Breeders’ Cup races, they do feature quality fields and offer solid wagering opportunities. Think of them as the appetizers for the main course this weekend.

DREFONG

Bob Baffert
Last race: Oct. 24, 2nd
Finish: 5th by 4 3/4
Beyer: 60

Favored first out, this 2-year-old colt broke last from the rail, rushed inside, chased behind runners, angled wide into the lane, raced greenly, and tired. He should improve a ton next out.

After breaking a tad slowly, she raced in 10th early and passed five rivals before galloping out in front in her five-furlong opener. The daughter of hot juvenile sire Old Forester should be better for the experience, and she has a successful second-out trainer.
