RACE 6: Off a victory over $16,000 nonwinners-of-three stock, MOST WANTED MAN (#3) seems nicely spotted in this open $10,000 claimer and could double up with Irad Ortiz Jr. back aboard. TIDAL FORCES (#5) is dropping off a cliff following a layoff, a win, and a $32,000 (Canadian) claim at Woodbine. It appears that he missed a recent work and is the type of dicey favorite who should be used defensively. BACKWOODS BOOGIE (#1) could be the lone speed. (3)
RACE 9: Horse-for-course MARYQUITECONTRARY is 7 for 9 at Gulfstream, and she won this Grade 2 fixture last year going away. The closer has some speed to run at under regular rider Luca Panici, who was aboard when she prevailed off a layoff in the Dec. 30 Rampart Stakes, a one-turn mile. INTREPID DAYDREAM possesses effective tactical speed and rarely finishes worse than second while often favored.
GP RACE 12: Singling the imposing Irish-bred WARM HEART, who is taking on the boys in this $1 million event. A multiple Group 1 winner in Europe, she was beaten just a neck by the brilliant Inspiral in the Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Turf at Santa Anita before ending up third in the Group 1 Hong Kong Vase. Of course, one would want to get involved in the biggest American race of the winter, but the Pegasus World Cup elicits too many questions to find a firm answer.
The favorites, National Treasure and First Mission, can be opposed, but who is the alternative? Trademark, who vanquished First Mission in the Clark, is inconsistent. Senor Buscador ran against the bias in the Cigar Mile but requires a long one-turn race like that for his best, while Cigar winner Hoist the Gold benefited from that bias. Skippylongstocking, potential value, drew an objectively terrible post.
In this series DRF handicapper/linemaker David Aragona provides his opinion of what constitutes fair win value for each runner in a weekend stakes race. The goal of this series is to bypass standard ordinal selections, instead developing price-based opinions around every horse in the field for the purpose of informing sound wagering decisions.

Longshot maiden-claiming mare pressed two wide, anchored and lost position, shuffled back, small rally on turn, flat. This was her first in a year, could outrun odds next start back.
