Hersh: How I'd play Gulfstream for Saturday, July 1

It’s a marathon, this Summit of Speed card at Gulfstream Park: First post is 11:55 a.m. Eastern, with the finale, race 14, scheduled to roll almost seven hours later, at 6:38.

The race placement is unusual, with several stakes clustered early on the program, a middle portion consisting mainly of lower-level claiming races, followed by all the richest stakes action on the card’s back end.

Race 4:
Deuces High (#3)
Seems to run his best races around one turn.
Was badly compromised by an inside-speed bias last time when he worked out a four-wide trip.
Rick Violette gets an 88 TimeformUS Trainer Rating with runners coming off layoffs of this length.

BreezeFigs Quick-Pix for Saturday, July 1, 2017, by Bob Fierro & Jay Kilgore

Our “gimmick-able” Pix last week both worked out very well. Nicholas and Me finished third to the 4-to-5 coupled entry to complete an $88 trifecta at Churchill. At Delaware, Into Bluegrass ran away from her rivals to post a $25.60 payoff.  Seven 3-year-old BreezeFigs maidens won last week at Charles Town (BreezeFigs exacta), Delaware (two), Finger Lakes, Laurel (two on the same day) and Monmouth.

Little Miss Amy (#4)
Chased a fast pace last time in a race that collapsed in the late stages.
Should get a more favorable pace scenario this time.

In rough times keep a steady hand

“What you know today can affect what you do tomorrow but not what you did yesterday.”

--Condoleezza Rice

The best thing about playing within the structure of a bankroll strategy is that is helps minimize losses. Like basketball, horseplaying can consist of a series of good runs and bad runs. Often the bad runs outweigh the good runs so it is important to maximize opportunities and minimize losses.
