TimeformUS Belmont Park Horses in Focus for Saturday, July 8, 2017

Race 1:
Morocco (#5)
Has faced some tough fields in his turf starts and has run better than it appears.
His dam was a confirmed sprinter, so he may appreciate the shorter distance.
DRF Formulator Fact: Bill Mott is 12 for 49 (24 percent, $2.68 ROI) when turning horses back on the turf at NYRA over the past five years.

Peck: All-stakes pick four at Delaware Park on Saturday, July 8

The late Pick 4 Saturday at Delaware Park is comprised of strictly stakes races, culminating in the Grade 3 Delaware Oaks. Here's one way to play it, with a $50 bankroll:

RACE 8: BISHOP'S POND was against the race flow in the Eatontown at Monmouth Park last time out, while ZIPESSA benefited. Still, the latter merits respect based on her best figures. PAIGE has been idle since March but trainer Christophe Clement does well with horses off the layoff. Also including, on lesser tickets, TRICKY ESCAPE and HAPPYNESS.

A's: 1, 4
B's: 9
C's: 3, 7

BreezeFigs Quick-Pix Saturday, July 8, 2017 by Bob Fierro & Jay Kilgore

Our 3-year-old Pick was scratched last week and our 2-year-old gimmick Pick went off first and second choices, and finished third and fourth—so if you mixed and matched with the first two, you picked up something. Lots of people picked up something last week as 11 3-year-old BreezeFigs maidens and a dozen 2-year-old BreezeFigs maidens got home first. The sophomores won at Belmont, Belterra, Delaware, Finger Lakes, Gulfstream (two, one a BreezeFigs exacta), Los Alamitos, Penn National. Pleasanton, Santa Anita and Tampa Bay.

Hammersly: Belmont Park pick five for Saturday, July 8

Stars and Stripes Day at Belmont features some strong Americans and some strong European raiders. The question is who to use in the late pick five (races 6-10)?

Race 6

BATTALION RUNNER (#2) ran second in the Grade 2 Wood Memorial (finished ahead of Cloud Computing, who came back to win the Preakness). They skipped the Triple Crown trail with him, and the $700,000 son of Unbridled’s Song has worked splendidly for this return. PRACTICAL JOKE (#3) has been freshened since a nice fifth in the Kentucky Derby. This shorter trip likely plays better for him.

TimeformUS Belmont Horses in Focus for Friday, July 7, 2017

Race 2:

Primo Pentimento (#1)
Should be fitting in his second start back from the layoff.
Was compromised by dueling through fast early fractions last time.
The Pace Projector is predicting he will be on the lead in a situation favoring the front-runner.
4-1 on ML

Free: Santa Anita horses to watch for week of July 5

TENGS RHYTHM
Trainer: Jeff Mullins
Last race: June 30, 5th
Finish: 3rd by 7 1/2
Beyer: 51
This was a good first start by this California-bred juvenile filly. Ridden to keep up, chased three wide, evenly, galloped out in front. Probably wants farther than five furlongs, solid debut.

Gierkink: Woodbine horses to watch for week of July 3

INFLEXIBILITY
Trainer:
Chad Brown
Last race: July 2, 10th
Finish: 3rd by 5 1/4 lengths
Beyer: 88

She had a troubled trip before ending up third in both the Queen’s Plate and Woodbine Oaks on the Tapeta. The daughter of Scat Daddy is bred strongly for the grass, on which she graduated at Belmont.
