DEL MAR, Calif. - Stakes victories by favored Stellar Wind in the Clement Hirsch and Miss Sunset in the Fleet Treat on Sunday at Del Mar were mixed with a few longshot winners, resulting in 23 winning pick six tickets, each worth $32,403.80 on a day when more than $1 million in fresh money was bet chasing large carryovers in the general pool and single-ticket jackpot.
With multiple tickets winning, the single-ticket jackpot carried over again until Wednesday, and now stands at $441,293.

Has run her best speed figures sprinting on the turf.
The Pace Projector is predicting a situation favoring runners on or near the lead, and she will be forwardly placed.

On a Sunday card that begins with a three-horse field in the Grade 3 Shuvee, I found the multi-race sequences mostly uninteresting. Rather than try to cobble a play together, let's focus on a couple of interesting spots on the card.
Sunday’s card at the Del Mar Thoroughbred Club features a pick six carryover of more than $161,000. Rather than a typical “How I’ll Play”, I’ll go over a few intriguing entrants in the sequence that you may want to consider if you’re diving into the carryover.
DEL MAR, Calif. - There are carryovers of $161,490 in the main pool and $317,581 in the single ticket jackpot pool of the $2 pick six for Sunday’s program at Del Mar.
The carryovers were caused by a sequence of longshots on Saturday’s program. Going into Saturday’s final race, there was one ticket alive for a single ticket jackpot payoff to Mucho Chrome, who led into the stretch and finished fourth at 6-1.
It’s a fun-looking card at Saratoga on Saturday, with appearances from the Derby and Preakness winners in the Jim Dandy as well as a pair of other intriguing stakes races on tap. Wagering-wise, I’m going to start with the early pick five.
DEL MAR, Calif. - A series of relatively formful races led to a pick six payoff of $11,873 at Del Mar on Friday and boosted the carryover in the single ticket jackpot portion of the pool to $282,976 for Saturday’s program.
The winners of Friday’s pick six races were Zuri Chop ($6.20), Freedom Journey ($8), Kings River King ($8), Mr. Hinx ($11), Oregon ($6.40) and Indium ($10).
Tickets with five of those winners paid $104.40.
Steven Crist, the former editor and publisher of Daily Racing Form and noted multirace wagering expert, often likened bets like the pick four and the pick six to handicapping tournaments. Successful contest player and co-founder of Off the Hook Stables Joe Appelbaum agrees with that assessment. “That’s a good way to think about it,” he said. “Really it’s more like a poker tournament where entries just get knocked out as time goes on and you have to survive and advance.”

Has run his best race on a sealed track, which is sometimes indicative of turf ability.
The Pace Projector is predicting a fast pace, which figures to aid this midpack runner.
