Saturday’s card at Santa Anita is highlighted by the Grade 1 Santa Anita Sprint Championship, a key prep for next month’s Breeders’ Cup Sprint. The Sprint Championship kicks off a pick-three sequence that I’m interested in looking at, and it concludes with the Swingtime, a restricted stakes for fillies and mares on turf.

The main track was favoring inside runners on Aug. 16, and he was wide for most of his trip.

It’s never happened before but there’s always a chance it will with BreezeFigs first-time starter maidens. In our Pick last week we keyed second-choice Maurinho (whom we also played straight) with favored Instilled Regard and long shot Peace, with Alternate Rhythm, the only other BreezeFigs colt in the race given a gimmick shot.
The beasts of the handicap division Arrogate and Gun Runner aren’t in Saturday’s Grade 1 Jockey Club Gold Cup at Belmont, and that may pave the way for one of the upstart 3-year-olds in the race to cap your pick five ticket.

Made a premature move down the backstretch last time.
Linda Rice gets a 100 Trainer Rating first off the claim.
Gets some needed class relief.
