NEW YORK – A trio of Grade 3 stakes highlight Saturday’s Veteran’s Day racing: the $200,000 Red Smith Handicap at Aqueduct, the $100,000 Commonwealth Turf at Churchill Downs, and the $100,000 Bob Hope at Del Mar.
Also of note are the six stakes at Laurel Park, where it is Ben’s Cat Day in celebration of that late Mid-Atlantic racing legend.
Safely Kept Stakes
Each week, TimeformUS Chief Figure Maker Craig Milkowski takes a look back at the weekend’s graded stakes and releases the TimeformUS Speed Figures for these races.

Race 3
Paula's Pistol (#1)
Broke awkwardly and was green in her debut, when finishing behind the two favorites here.
A couple of her siblings handled route distances, so she may like the stretch-out.
DRF Formulator Fact: Over the past five years, Michelle Nevin is 11 for 36 (31%, $4.22 ROI) with non-debuting dirt horses trying routes for the first time.

YOU’RE A GOAT
Trainer: Dan Blacker
Last race: Oct. 26, 1st (Santa Anita)
Finish: 3rd by 2 1/4
Beyer: 72
This claiming-caliber turf filly is past due for a jockey change. Blocked in deep stretch, steadied, buried, finished with run. She’s no champ, but had no shot with this trip.
IT’S FATE
Trainer: Malcolm Pierce
Last race: Nov. 4, fourth
Finish: 1st by 1/2
Beyer: 74
After narrowly losing his debut, he closed stoutly from far back to land an about one-mile maiden special on the grass. The Sam-Son Farm homebred looks like a prospect for next year’s Canadian Triple Crown.
Race 2:
Spa Treatment (#6)
Had real trouble last time, as she was uncomfortable and rank while racing between horses early and got stymied in traffic in the stretch.
Handled two turns on dirt earlier in her career, so this stretch-out in distance may be to her liking.
There is not that much speed in this field, so she can use her speed to get forward early position on the stretch-out.
