One of our two first-timer Pix at Aqueduct was basically left at the gate, the other one showed no interest, so it was up to Sharpe and Ready, the other BreezeFigs horse in the race, whom we liked as well, and he came through splendidly as a modest favorite. Our other Pick, at Tampa, did not impress. It was still a very decent week for BreezeFigs maidens.

Race 4:
Puffery (#2)
Finished off her last race like a horse that should have no problem with the added distance.
Was hindered by a poor trip in her return from the layoff two back.
Earned the highest TimeformUS Speed Figure (93) in the field for her last win.
8-5 on ML

NEW YORK – Preps for the Kentucky Derby take a more serious turn Saturday with the Grade 2, $400,000 Risen Star at Fair Grounds, which is worth five times the Derby points than every prep we’ve seen so far, save for the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile. The Risen Star also tops a Fair Grounds card that includes three other graded stakes.
Race 2:
Proletariat (#5)
Ran better than it seems in his first start off the layoff last time, making a wide move to the lead on day that featured a rail bias.
Showed improvement in his second start off a similar layoff when returning to the races last winter.
Possesses early speed, and the Pace Projector is predicting a situation favoring horses near the front.
7-2 on ML
MOVE OVER
Trainer: John Sadler
Last race: Feb. 8, 7th
Finish: 7th by 9
Beyer: 59
This N1X turf mile was a toss-out. Steadied, rank, and difficult to manage early, rallied wide, went flat. His runner-up U.S. debut two back was sharp, may benefit by a return to the hill.
MAGNIFICENT Q T
Trainer: Jim Cassidy
Last race: Feb. 8, 8th

TENFOLD
Trainer: Steve Asmussen
Last race: Feb. 9, 7th
Finish: 1st by 5 3/4
Beyer: 87
Triple Crown nominee made a splash in his debut, winning over 1 1/16 miles against a number of more experienced rivals. He led throughout and had more through the stretch. Tenfold is bred to be a good one as a son of Curlin and the Tapit mare Temptress, who hails from the female family of multiple Grade 1 winner Possibly Perfect.
BALLARD HIGH
Trainer: Linda Rice
Last race: Feb. 10, 3rd
Finish: 5th by 8 1/2
Beyer: 53
First-time starter was away from the gate very poorly and acting green early while facing several experienced rivals, but he raced on all through the stretch for a trainer who tends to get significant improvement out of young horses after a start.
