TimeformUS Belmont Park Horses in Focus for Sunday, June 17, 2018

Race 7:
Stolen Pistol (#7)

Won his maiden sprinting on turf before trying a series of routes.
Has excuses for recent losses, as he’s been overmatched many times and encountered soft courses.
DRF Formulator Fact: Over the past five years, Joe Sharp is 5 for 12 (42 percent, $7.39 ROI) with turf sprinters (five to six furlongs) coming off layoffs of 120 to 240 days.

Race 4:
Chubby Star (#5)

Should improve in her second start off the layoff.

Ran well despite getting poor trips in a number of races last year.

Horacio DePaz gets a 98 Trainer Rating with all starters on the NYRA circuit.

This is one of the more intriguing races on the card. I’m just not thrilled with Yummy Bear (#8), who gets back to the right spot after being overmatched in the Kingston last time. He typically runs well, but he’s had his chances at this level and usually finds someone to beat him.

BreezeFigs Quick-Pix for Saturday, June 16, 2018, by Bob Fierro & Jay Kilgore

Both of our Pix keys came through last week with There and Back winning his race and Parsimony getting up to complete the exacta in his race. It was a very good week for the 3-year-old BreezeFigs maidens, with eight of them winning at: Belmont (two), Churchill, Gulfstream (BreezeFigs exacta), Indiana, Prairie Meadows and Santa Anita (two). The 2-year-olds are still waiting for longer distances in some cases, but two of them won, at Laurel and Santa Anita.

Bernier: How I'd play Santa Anita for Saturday, June 16

Saturday’s featured event at Santa Anita is the Summertime Oaks for 3-year-old fillies, a race that I believe includes some horses that could be vulnerable at short prices. There’s one fresh face in the Summertime Oaks (race six) that I’m interested in, so I’ll play a daily double, hooking up the fifth and sixth races.

Race 4:
Too Foofoo for You (#2)

Was hindered by the inside post position last time as she was steadied repeatedly into the turn as horses came over on her.

Gets blinkers for her second start.

Should appreciate the stretch-out to six furlongs.
