Peck: Lone Star late pick four for Sunday, July 15

The key to the late pick four at Lone Star on Sunday may be Kat's Infatuation, who has been away for nearly a year but makes her return in the Valor Farm Stakes, the third leg of the sequence. On the plus side, she has been working well, and trainer Bret Calhoun does well with horses coming off extended breaks. Race favorites Zippit E and Prada's Bling are both at their best on the front end, and if they end up in a duel, Kat's Infatuation could find herself ideally spotted behind that pair.

With Kat's Infatuation as a key, here's a potential pick-four ticket for races 7-10:

Peck: How I'll play Indiana Grand for Saturday, July 14

The biggest day of the Indiana Grand meet features the Indiana Derby, which may prove to be wide open if able to beat morning-line favorite King Zachary. That runner comes off a career-best Beyer but could regress off that figure, earned with the aid of a forward trip in a race lacking pace. I'll use them all, but it becomes moot if not alive to the race. Here's one way to try to get there, "caveman style" due to uncertainty regarding Siem Riep:

Race 6:
Enthusiastic Gal (#6)

Was stymied in traffic and steadied late in her return two back.

Ran extremely well last time when making a five-wide move closing into a slow pace.

Has been confidently stepped up in class in each start since her return from the layoff.

BreezeFigs Quick-Pix, Saturday, July 14, 2018 by Bob Fierro & Jay Kilgore

Our Pick last week is better forgotten as Spanish Exchange simply showed no interest. It was a fairly quiet week all around but seven BreezeFigs 3-year-olds and six BreezeFigs 2-year-olds broke their maidens. The sophomores won at Belmont (two, including a BreezeFigs exacta), Ellis, Hastings, Laurel, Monmouth and Northlands. The babies won at Arlington, Belmont, Los Alamitos, Monmouth and Prairie Meadows.

McGee: Delaware Park pick three play for Saturday, July 14, 2018

This pick three in the heart of the card will rely on Unbridled Mo to come through in the track’s showcase event, the 81st Delaware Handicap (Race 9), and using a number of longer prices in the preceding races. Here’s the play:

Race 2:
Royal Inheritance (#3)

Faced a significantly tougher field in her turf debut last time, and actually hung on well until the eighth pole.

Finally gets back to New York-bred company, against which she’s earned three of her four victories.

The Pace Projector is predicting a situation favoring runners on or near the lead, and she’s the speed of the speed.

Weekend Warrior for Saturday, July 14: Picks for the Kent Stakes, Delaware Handicap, Forbidden Apple

Michael Burns
Mr Havercamp wins the Steady Growth Stakes easily as the favorite Saturday at Woodbine.

A nice racing weekend is upon us, with salty fields assembled for many stakes races coast to coast. Delaware Park and Indiana Grand each has a big day Saturday, and Los Alamitos has its marquee event, the Los Alamitos Derby for 3-year-olds. Whatever you fancy from a wagering perspective, it’s there to be had Saturday. I’m most interested in the two graded stakes races from Delaware, as well as the main event at Belmont Park.

Race 3:
Starlite Mission (#5)

Her best dirt race over the winter came going this one-mile distance.

Faced subtly tougher company in her prior main track starts, while some of her main rivals exit weak maiden heat.

DRF Formulator Fact: Over the past five years, Gary Contessa is 13 for 52 (25 percent, $3.20 ROI) with maidens going from turf to dirt routes.
