TimeformUS Aqueduct Horses in Focus for Saturday, Nov. 3, 2018

Race 1: Cariba (#1)

Has impressed in her morning workouts.

Is bred to be precocious, since her dam is a half-sister to a couple of dirt sprint winners.

DRF Formulator Fact: Over the past five years, Kiaran McLaughlin is 12 for 53 (23 percent, $2.32 ROI) with 2-year-old first time starters in dirt sprints racing on Lasix.

BreezeFigs Quick-Pix for Saturday, November 3, 2018, by Bob Fierro & Jay Kilgore

Last week’s Pick Corruze turned in a performance that if made earlier might have prompted his connections to take him to today’s Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf. As it is, he exploded through the stretch to catch the other BreezeFigs colt, Kinetic Swagger, and buried that one and his field to give a $26.00 gift to his backers. The other Pick, Lady Furbein at Hawthorne got off poorly and, alas, did nothing.

TimeformUS Aqueduct Horses in Focus for Friday, Nov. 2, 2018

Race 7: True Timber (#2)

Is in the best form of his career right now, and loves the seven-furlong distance.

Defeated Patternrecognition two back, and that horse returned to win the Grade 2 Kelso next time out.

Did well to overcome a two- to three-wide trip over a rail-biased surface last time.

Key contenders for Breeders' Cup Filly and Mare Turf

KEY CONTENDERS

Fourstar Crook, by Freud
Last 3 Beyers: 104-101-101
◗ A New York-bred that has risen to Grade 1 prominence, she is 3 for 5 this year with her two defeats being runner-up finishes to stablemate Sistercharlie.
◗ Capable of handling wet ground, having won multiple stakes on yielding turf, as well as the Flower Bowl most recently on “good” turf. She was also third over soft going in the E. P. Taylor last fall.

Key contenders for Breeders' Cup Sprint

IMPERIAL HINT, by Imperialism

Last 3 Beyers: 99-108-103

* Has matured since finishing second in the 2017 Sprint. One of his strengths is that he’s no longer a need-the-lead type horse.

* He’s won eight times and finished worse than second just once in 11 starts at the six-furlong distance of the Sprint.

* He finished off the board in both previous starts at Churchill Downs, but neither of those races were at his preferred distance of six furlongs.

Key contenders for the 2018 Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf Sprint

Key contenders

Strike Silver, by Violence
Last 3 Beyers: 76-71-76

• Morning-line favorite drew the inside post in a full field. Broke from post 2 of 12 in the Indian Summer going this 5 ½-furlong distance, and worked out a trip after poor break to rally for the win.

• Julien Leparoux, aboard for all three of his prior starts, is in the irons.

Bernier: How I'd play the pick four on Breeders' Cup Friday at Churchill Downs

Barbara D. Livingston
Newspaperofrecord trains at Churchill Downs on Friday.

Future Stars Friday at the 2018 Breeders’ Cup figures to showcase a little bit of everything: fantastic betting races, tremendously talented runners, and potential Kentucky Derby and Kentucky Oaks contenders in 2019. The pick four sequence comprising races 6-9 appears intriguing - a heavy favorite looms in the first leg, but handicappers can get creative in the remaining three legs in search of value.
