TimeformUS Aqueduct Horses in Focus for Sunday, Jan. 27, 2019

Race 2: American Lincoln (#4)

Was facing a much tougher field when he returned from a layoff in the slop last time.

Has run competitive speed figures when he’s been realistically spotted, as he is today.

DRF Formulator Fact: Over the past five years, Linda Rice is 9 for 19 (47 percent, $2.87 ROI) second off the layoff on the dirt with horses going from allowance to claiming company.

Hersh: Gulfstream Park early pick four for Saturday, Jan. 26, 2019

Going to stick with a fairly modest “caveman” play for the early pick four (races 2-5) on Gulfstream’s Pegasus World Cup card.

The good thing is I really like a horse in the sequence. The bad thing is that horse is World of Trouble (#4) in race 3, and he’s listed at 6-5 on the morning line. With the late-breaking news that this race is coming off turf, his price is only going to drop.

Race 3: She Takes Charge (#4)

Was visually impressive winning her debut by seven lengths after making a wide move off the turn.

Horses have returned to improve their TimeformUS Speed Figures out of that race by anywhere between 18 and 42 points.

Should handle the stretch-out in distance as a daughter of Take Charge Indy.

BreezeFigs Quick-Pix for Saturday, January 26, 2019, by Bob Fierro & Jay Kilgore

Logic went out the window in last week’s Pick when our choices got fried early and Gracetown, the BreezeFigs filly we didn’t really like, just got pipped at 9-to-1. Her stride length obviously franked her previous form and her BreezeFigs profile indicates she had a problem at OBSAPR where she was scratched (SCR) after her trial. Sometimes this happens.

Race 2: Baby Boss (#1)

The Pace Projector is predicting a situation favoring runners on or near the lead, and she figures to be forwardly placed.

Ran well in her return from the layoff last time, as she just got tired in the last sixteenth.

Would be a serious winning threat if she gets back to her efforts in August and December.

Watchmaker: Gulfstream pick four play for Saturday, Jan. 26, 2019

The late pick 4 on Saturday’s Pegasus World Cup card at Gulfstream, which begins in race 9, is an all-stakes affair culminating with the main event.

As it turns out, the last three legs of this sequence – the McKnight, the Pegasus Turf, and the Pegasus Cup - were the three races I used in this week’s Weekend Warrior column.
