Rampellini: Oaklawn Park horses to watch for week of Feb. 27, 2019

PYRON
Trainer: Steve Asmussen
Last Race: Feb. 24, 6th
Finish: 1st by three-quarters of a length
Beyer: 87

He was prominent throughout when winning a maiden special weight sprint for 3-year-olds in a quick 1:10.93. The field was a deep one, too. Pyron is a Candy Ride colt from the female family of Arkansas Derby winner Olympio. He races for his breeder, Winchell Thoroughbreds.

Free: Santa Anita preview for Sunday, Feb. 24, 2019

Although average field size Sunday at Santa Anita is just 6.6 starters per race, the card might include one or two nuggets worth backing.

TimeformUS Aqueduct Horses in Focus for Sunday, Feb. 24, 2019

Race 1: Lonhtwist (#3)
Ran deceptively well in his debut when setting a fast pace while racing on a dead rail.
Is a turf-inclined runner, so he may find himself right at home on a sloppy, sealed track.
Races with Lasix for the first time.

Gierkink: Gulfstream Park early pick five for Sunday, Feb. 24

The opening leg of the early pick five contains the wake-up prospect PRINCESS DANIELA (2), who’s moving out to a mile with the pedigree of a router. She won’t have to break a track record to beat this modest group of $12,500 maidens, and I will key her before spreading out the rest of the way.

Bernier: How I'll play Santa Anita on Saturday, Feb. 23, 2019

The main event at Santa Anita on Saturday is the Buena Vista at a mile on turf for fillies and mares, and VASILIKA (9) looks formidable yet again for trainer Jerry Hollendorfer. There are alternatives who could be considered if you’re looking to take a shot against the big mare, but I’m not too keen on trying to beat her. However, there are other appealing races throughout the day; below are a few horses to consider.

Race 4: Kid Is Frosty (#3)
Raced three wide against a strong rail bias last time out.
Did well to hang on for second last time after making a move into a very fast pace.
Brad Cox gets a 99 TimeformUS Trainer Rating with horses making the second start after a trainer switch into his barn.
