Peck: How I'll play Parx on Saturday, September 21, 2019

There are some key scratches in today's late Pick four sequence at Parx, which includes the $1 million Pennsylvania Derby. Of course, everyone knows Maximum Security is out of the feature race but on Saturday morning Monongahela, one of the main contenders in the Parx Dirt Mile, was scratched, and that changes the betting landscape for that race, and this sequence. Here's an updated look:

Race 6: Candy Tycoon (#4)

Was highly touted as one of Pletcher’s best 2-year-olds prior to his debut at Saratoga.

Got a terrible trip in that first start as he was off a bit slowly and bumped before getting rank behind horses.

Worked well with talented 3-year-old Spinoff, without blinkers, since that first start.

4-5 on ML

BreezeFigs Quick-Pix for Saturday, September 21, 2019 by Bob Fierro & Jay Kilgore

Our gimmick key worked last week as 46-to-1 shot Thissmytime pressed the pace in a surprising move and held on to complete a trifecta with the two favorites. It kicked off a wild week for BreezeFigs maidens as 17 of them came home first, several kicking off BreezeFigs gimmicks.

Race 2: Shimmering Moon (#6)

Should be fitter in her second start off the layoff.

Was stuck down on a dead rail last time at Saratoga.

Robert Falcone, Jr. gets a solid 89 TimeformUS Trainer Rating first off the claim.

Weekend GamePlan: Picks for Charles Town Oaks, Bald Eagle Derby, Laurel Dash for September 21, 2019

Jim Duley/Maryland Jockey Club
Oldies But Goodies wins the statebred Ben's Cat in July. He has enough speed to make the lead in the Laurel Dash.

Saturday is Pennsylvania Derby Day at Parx, where disqualified Kentucky Derby winner Maximum Security won’t be racing. Yeah, it’s too bad Maximum Security dealt with a bout of colic that knocked him out of the Pennsylvania Derby, but it’s good he appears to be out of the woods in terms of recovery. It’s Mr. Money for me in this race if I’m playing, which I’m not. The Grade 1 Cotillion, jam-packed with pace, holds more appeal wagering-wise, and I’ll be a little interested in Horologist at double-digit win odds.

Race 6: Carthon (#6)

Earned a series of speed figures during the winter and spring at Aqueduct that would make him formidable here.
The Pace Projector is predicting he’s fast enough to make the front, and he’s drawn well, just outside his main speed rival Three to Thirteen.
Ran one of his best races when he was coming off a similar layoff in December last year.
5-2 on ML
