DRF's Horse Racing Playbook for Wednesday, April 15, 2020

Tom Keyser
Tampa Bay Downs will kick off the North American racing action on Wednesday with a first post at 12:30 p.m. Eastern.

With most other North American sports being shut down due to the coronavirus pandemic, we hope the sport of horse racing can entertain you during these trying times. Daily Racing Form has served as the most trusted source of news and information about the sport since 1894, and moving forward we have decided to provide a free daily playbook – something that both hardcore horseplayers and casual observers can reference to get informed of each day’s action.

Brad Free: Cross-country plays for Sunday, April 12, 2020

Bill Denver/Equi-Photo
Ray’swarrior won the Rumson Stakes at Monmouth Park with a 98 Beyer Speed Figure on July 4.

What is tougher to find Sunday – Easter eggs or Gulfstream Park overlays? You’re on your own with the eggs, perhaps Gulfstream prices will be easier to uncover.

Gulfstream Park, race 2 (12:29 p.m. ET) – Restricted claiming races – N2L and N3L – frequently are won by sharp horses moving up from maiden-claiming or N2L wins, irrespective of previous races. Sounds simple, right? London Werewolf (12) crushed a N2L last out; his figure is within four points of par for this $8K claiming N3L level. London Werewolf is 10-1, might have to settle for a little less.

Due to a number of northern horses staying put at Gulfstream Park, the track is adding overnight stakes to its second condition book of the spring meet.

BreezeFigs Quick-Pix for Saturday, April 11, 2020 by Bob Fierro & Jay Kilgore

First of all, Happy Passover and Happy Easter. As far as the horses go, Gravitas, last week’s Pick came through with a surprising $10 payoff after setting the pace and just managing to hold on in a pretty heady effort. He was one of five BreezeFigs maidens who won during the week including another at Tampa Bay, two at Gulfstream (one a BreezeFigs exacta) and another at Oaklawn.

Free: Cross-country plays for Friday, April 10, 2020

Shopping for prices Friday at Oaklawn Park and Gulfstream Park:

GP, race 8 (4:41 ET) – Super Cute (1), a large filly whose debut was more impressive than the figure or competition she defeated, should get pace to flatter her rally as she shortens from two turns to a one-turn mile. She likely has improved since her maiden win three months ago. Super Cute is listed at 8-1, and worth backing at a couple points less. Program favorite Four Graces (8) is solid, therefore an exacta saver is in order.
